Chana Halwa (local name) is a kind of dessert made of gram, sugar, oil and various spices with light frying in oil. To make this dessert, I had to be an object of laughter in our family. No matter, how my family members think. Because, they always try to make fun to entertain and create a happy moment.

Chana Halwa is made by boiling grams and mixing different types of spices with light frying in oil. This dessert is both delicious and nutritious. It is a well-known dessert in our country.

To make this dessert, I used some ingredients. these are:

‌Half kg gram dal;
‌5 pieces of small cardamom

‌50 grams of raisins.
‌Dried Date- 4 pieces
‌Almonds (কাঠবাদাম) - 50 grams

‌Oil - 250 grams
‌Sugar - 400 grams
‌Coconut - a quarter

Combines all the ingredients in making this dessert, I have taken a few steps. Usually so many spices are not used. Since I am making it at home and we will eat it ourselves, that's why i wanted to make it delicious and use spices. Let's go to steps of making this dessert.

Step 1:

Firstly, I separated the dirts from gram dal (চানা ডাল) and washed them properly. Then i boiled in hot water for 30 minutes. Because, these have to be soft and then, powdered.

Step 2
Then I let the boiled gram lightly dry in a pot to let the water fall. After 5 minutes, I made boiled gram powder. I have used Grinding stone (শিল পাটা) for making powder. It took a lot of time and effort to do it.

Step 3

In the third step, I had to fry the powder in a pan with light oil. When frying, keep in mind that if you want to make solid halwa, you have to fry more. And if you want to make soft halwa, you have to fry it lightly. After frying, it turned into bright colour. I also fried coconut, raisins and dried date in oil.

Step 4

Then I heated the oil and put sugar in it. I added bay leaves and hot spices (গরম মসলা). Then I put almonds (কাজুবাদাম ও কাঠবাদাম) in it and then powder of gram. After a while I soften it with water. Then I mixed ghee and stir it with a spoon for about 5 minutes. Halwa is almost ready.

Step 5

In the fifth and last step, I poured the halwa into a container using a large spoon. This time is to work very carefully. I spread the halwa all over the container. Then I started cutting with a knife.

The prepared halwa can be served in two ways. It can be eaten in a wet condition. Otherwise, it can be dried with a little more heat and eaten hard.

Who doesn't like to eat sweet food. It is as delicious as it is beneficial. Many people have created different types of desserts for their families through this contest. I did it with great pleasure. I was able to learn something new. Good luck to everyone!

I would like to invite @sanaulbd to participate this interesting contest arranged by BDCommunity.
