GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES

I'm not much of an anime movie lover. However, for the past few days, my younger sister was insisting me to watch this movie named GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES. So I started seeing without delay. I would not have thought that an animated movie could tell such a beautifully tragic story without seeing it. But I was even more surprised when I found out that it was made in 1988! About 32 years ago today. When it was difficult to make cartoons. Making the movie with the help of a little technology is really incomparable. Directed by ISAO TAKAHATA. Author AKIYUKI NOSAKA. Let's come to the movie now.

Many Japanese towns were destroyed as a result of bombardment by the Americans. In this fire, the Japanese faced problems like homelessness, food crisis, etc. The image of all these things was revealed through two characters in this movie. One of these two characters is SEITA and the other is SETSUKA. They are siblings who were victims of the bombing. Their father served in the Japanese Navy who died in the war. And their mother died in a bomb attack. After the death of their parents comes down to a difficult time in their lives. This animated masterpiece is about the struggle for survival of these two brothers and sisters. The first shot of the film shows SEITA dead at a train station, and so we can guess throughout the movie we are in flashback by the boy's soul. The story of their survival is as heartbreaking as it is the truth of life. At the end of the movie, a kind of sad feeling will remain in the heart. It feels like emptiness has been created in the heart.

Omg...

I remember watching this as a kid. It was really sad.

My family fought against the Japanese during WWII in China. The deep-seated hatred still runs today. There were a lot of awful things that had happened during the war.

At the same time, watching this movie also tugged the feels.

Sometimes, it's important to step back and realize that good people suffer because of war. And many of the benefactors are those who are in power and those who seek glory in the name of their overlords.

Its the regime doing all dirty politics for which the general mass have to suffer.

I cannot stand this movie, it does more to be emotionally manipulative than actually tell an interesting story.

The absolute worst example I can point out is when here spirit is playing around doing cute things while wearing an army helmet, something that wasn't relevant to anything she did in life. It was nothing but the movie going 'Look at all the cute things she does aren't you sad she's dead now?'And that basically sums up the movie for me.

They don't feel like real characters, they just feel like generic brother/sister tropes thrown together, and the only real thing that makes the movie sad is (And this isn't a spoiler, you know it's going to happen at the start of the movie) you are watching kids slowly die for the course of the movie. You don't care because they are interesting characters, we are just hardwired as humans to not want kids to die.

All that said, you may not be much of an anime movie lover, but we do have an Anime Community here on Hive I created if YOu're ever interested in checking it out, it's 'The Anime Realm'. :p

Thank you for the invitation

Here is some more great classic Anime suggestions for you to explore:

Nausicaä from the valley of the wind
Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle
Cowboy Bebop
Neon Genesis Evangelion
My Neighbor Totoro
Ghost in the Shell

The best thing i think anime have is how wide the themes are, and how weird stories can turn to be a deep philosophical discussion.

From the examples above:

Ghost in the shell question what is to be human through the eyes of an android
Evangelion questions why we need other people to live

Some are just cool and fun (with some deepness, like Cowboy Bebop)

There is a lot of gems around among the thousands of shitty cringy anime that exist.

I remember watching Ghost in a shell (Hollywood ) and then I heard that it was a copy of Japanese anime.

Didn't watch the Live Action hollywood version, but i heard it isn't as good. Better check the original.

I'd rather watch a good anime over most movies out there. Most movies nowadays are either superheroes, fast cars and shootings or love stories...

Yeah, animes are way apart from all of them. Each frame of anime is like a piece of art and their stories are like something out of here.
