Dragon Ball & Goku

Writing a short about your favorite fictional character? Should be easy, I guess.

I surely didn't have to spend much time on browsing through the list of my top fictional characters. From childhood to adulthood, there has always been only one obvious choice in my mind. I myself am quite picky when it comes to such shows, movies or anything of that sorts. That is why I don't have to scour through a big list of characters.

From the very few memorable shows, Dragon Ball and Goku still hold the number 1 spot in my books, especially DBZ. And I'd say it's the same for many others out there, younger and older. You really can't find many people who don't love or at least know about Dragon Ball and Goku. The fan base is huge and spread worldwide, even to this day.

The love for Dragon Ball and Goku goes wayy back, starting from kindergarten and going on till the early days of elementary school. The craze was huge back then, these newer forms of Super Saiyans all around us. On TV and the internet, different images and renders, posters, Dragon Ball themed books and stationeries.

Luckily, I myself was quite good with drawing these characters. I used to draw and color them and then stack them up as a collection. Soon enough, my friends at school noticed how good some of these drawings were.

So? I started taking custom orders to draw a certain Dragon Ball character for them. And within no time, I was making a decent amount of money from these, back in fourth and fifth grade mostly. I managed to turn my love for Dragon Ball and Goku into a small "side hustle" haha, not bad eh?

It's been over two decades now, yet the love is still there for Goku and Dragon Ball. You just have to love how a goofball like Goku managed to grow so much. Getting beaten down countless times, but always standing back up, always training harder than the rest. He became one of the best and most powerful at one point, but he was always remained down to earth, the same old goofball.

The show/series tells you a lot, a lot to learn and take in. Whether it be about life, kindness, never giving up, I surely have learned a lot from this little "fictional" character. A lot of it will forever have its solidified spot in both my heart and mind.

I can, but I choose not to, for some reason...

"always training harder than the rest" - well, this ain't true from my pov. I think Vegeta trains the most.

Vegeta may be training harder now, but you have to remember who started first. Goku started with some serious training at an young age, whereas Vegeta was mostly the spoiled and entitled prince till DBZ. Vegeta started training properly after facing Goku, after getting thrashed badly he got to know that he actually isn't as powerful as he thought he was. He got to know that blood or talent alone never gets the job done.

On top of that, Goku is surely more talented, yet he never stops training, he's more eager to learn.

Consistency, slow and steady progress over a long period of time shows solid long lasting results, it builds the strongest of foundations.

"He got know that, blood or talent alone never gets the job done."- I can agree with that.

But Until DBZ they were the strongest of the universe. When you are a top henchman for the emperor of the universe, you will surely be arrogant. Well Goku saved the universe multiple time but he is a fight monger under all that goofiness. And there is Vegeta, who has a burden to restore his whole planet and save their race from extinction.

They just "thought" they were the strongest. Truth is, there's always someone better in some corner of the world. And top henchman or not, you should always try to get better at what you do, better than who you were yesterday, in one way or the other. Even 0.01% of progress is better than nothing.

So, once more, Goku stayed consistent, from childhood to present time, that's why he's still at the top. He never said yeah this is enough, I should or "I can" stop for now.

Whereas Vegeta realized it all a bit late, he has been "kicking it" for a bit too long, that's why he's been playing catch up for so many years. But tbh, if he keeps up the pace, he just might surpass Goku.

Yet, it's all up to the writers. They're actually the most powerful ones in a certain Universe, then comes the characters they choose and how they choose to write them.

Yeah, the writers and Akira Toriyama, will never let Vegeta pass Goku I think. But Vegeta's new from Ultra Ego sound promising. And then Majin Vegeta was badass but I dont count it as his accomplishment.

They all do have big plans for Vegeta, a lot of people are talking about it. We'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

Hoping for the best
