Dhaka residents are getting very close during the much awaited metro rail journey. Due to the coronavirus, the work of Line-7 came to a standstill in the middle. Now it's cut. Busyness has started again in the project area. Workers, technicians, engineers and others are working day and night. Rail coaches have been built in Japan to run on Line-6 from Diabari in Uttara to Motijheel. They are now awaiting shipment. The shipment will be done only if the situation improves a bit. Rail tracks are being laid from Diabari to Mirpur; On which the train will run. Electric lines are being drawn in this part. The construction work of the station is also going on. There will be a total of 18 stations on the 21 km route of the month Rapid Transit-MRT Line-6. The iconic stations will be in Diabari, Mirpur and Motijheel. The rest are ordinary stations. If all goes well, the people of the capital will be able to travel from Diabari to Motijheel with great ease by pressing the Metrorail before the scheduled time of December 2022. This information has been known by visiting the project area and talking to the concerned people. In Diabari and Agargaon sections of Metrorail Line-6, workers have been seen working non-stop. At the same time construction of stations, installation of railway tracks, installation of railway lines are in progress. In the Mirpur-Motijheel section, viaduct is being installed in large cranes; On which the rail track will be laid. The working technician, speaking to the workers, said that the shifting work has resumed after a short break due to the stagnation of the coronavirus. They are working 24 hours a day to complete the project ahead of schedule. However, there has been some relaxation among the workers in following the hygiene rules. Many have been seen working without masks. Metrorail project managing director MAN Siddique told Bangladesh Pratidin, "Hopefully, work on all the packages will start in full swing soon." Despite the reduction of corona panic, the concerned people are working according to the health rules. If the pace of work continues, the project will be completed before December 2022, ”he said.
According to sources, the work of Diabari-Mirpur, the first part of MRT Line-6, has progressed by more than 60 percent. Work is underway to install rail tracks and power lines in this part. In the first part, more than 11 kilometers of rail tracks and power lines have been laid. In the second part, the progress of Mirpur-Motijheel work is 40 percent. The work of installing viaduct in this part is going on. Once the viaduct is installed, rail tracks and power lines will be installed. And the railway coach has been made in the factory of Japan for the operation of this part of line-6. They are now awaiting shipment. Shipment will start as soon as the situation improves. Authorities expect the train to arrive in Dhaka before next December. Besides, the construction work of station building in Diabari-Mirpur section is also progressing fast. Land development work for the entire project area has already been completed.
It is learned that the work of setting up electric lines for operating Metrorail is also progressing fast. A high-capacity power line is being pulled from the substation built at Tongi for the Metrorail to the Metrorail depot at Diabari. At the same time the same electric line is being drawn across the entire metrorail line.
Sources said that at present four stations of MRT Line-6 project are under construction. These are Uttara North, Uttara South, Uttara East and Dhaka University Area Station at Diabari. Of these, construction work is underway on the surface of three stations in Uttara. The concerned people said that the work of these three stations will be completed in the quickest time. Besides, construction of station using digital device is underway in Dhaka University area. And there has been a lot of progress in the work of the three iconic stations. The pace of work has also increased.
However, work on the two packages from Agargaon to Motijheel has been slow. Japanese contractors are working in this part. All the engineers are Japanese. The visible work of these two packages has been stopped as the Japanese have left their country due to coronavirus. But it is hoped that they will return to work soon. The embassies of both the countries have taken steps to bring them back, the bridge department said. A letter has also been sent to the Japanese embassy in Dhaka. In a special process, they will soon return to Dhaka to join the work; Which will take Metrorail's dream realization one step further.
