Nigeria is a big country with lot of activities. Lagos, being the commercial capital of the country is the most busiest.

The state is regarded as Centre of Excellence. Many people who stay in the village, dream of coming to Lagos to hustle.

It is believed that money is in this city. Those of us living there can't say the same but these people come to this place with full force to make it big time.

As a result of this large number of people in Lagos state, transportation business becomes one of the most lucrative businesses anyone can do in Lagos.

The business is one that can never go down. Hardly will anyone start a transportation business in Lagos and run into loss.

Funny enough, those with personal cars drop them at home and join others to hustle for buses.

This is due to the fact that Lagos is known for traffic. A journey of 20 minutes will take you over an hour in Lagos state.

The state is congested, no doubt with people trooping in daily to hustle and make money.

Lagos, although have a slang that Lagos money stays in Lagos. This doesn't move many people as some have houses in their villages already.

With the above mentioned, no one ever wondered or asked if these drivers are sane to drive them.

I know in more civilized countries, a driver is tested and proving sane to drive a car. They get their license after rigorous trainings.

Here, it is different. No such training and the license is owned even by someone who can't ride bicycle. We get the license with money but not after training.

These drivers drink lot of spirit. They take dry gins before entering the bus. Some take it while driving and we the passengers see them do it and pretend it is normal.

An average commercial driver in Lagos is often half drunk before embarking on a journey.

It worries me that no one ever question these people or ask if they are truly sane to drive them.

The normal slogan is don't drink and drive and if you must drink, don't drive.

This doesn't work in Lagos state as drivers see gins and spirit as their motivation. They drive to have their eyes almost closing before they move.

It bothers me that this has continued for so long. It is still happening today and i don't see it stopping anytime soon because it is not seen as a problem.

Have you for once questioned the sanity of your driver? Don't you think this gin they take is injurious to them and could lead to accident.

There is a need for us to start looking into this matter and ask for their sanity certificates before taking us because it is our lives and we should put it in the hands of sane people.

Thanks for your time.
