This was a throwback of the last school holiday beginning of the year. We were full gear on school holiday mode plus also excited for upcoming Chinese New Year. In the midst of busyness, when we went out for dinner in the vicinity.
RDS Restaurant Wangsa Maju
Location: Hong Mon, 41, Jalan 14/27b, Desa Setapak, 53300 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
This is by far the biggest restaurant in our area, 'kopitiam' concept where in it there are many smaller stalls, each selling different food. Here, you can find chicken rice, bak kut teh, pork mixed soup rice, chu cheong fan, Sarawak noodle, 'nasi lemak', satay, BBQ chicken wings, pasta, 'pan mee', Western Food, beef noodle, porridge, 'Yong tao foo', snacks, fried noodles, 'Poh piah' and economy mixed rice. And etc. Indeed, super a lot of stalls here. Totally open-concept. Some family may not prefer here because it is nearby roadside and they feel dusty, also it is nearby road drain and if you lucky, you may spot a rat.
Anyway, we went because we were tired and wanted a place nearby to have fast dinner.
Food we ordered
My husband ordered a 'loh mien' basically a Chinese noodle dish where it is so-called braised in a thick starchy soy sauce gravy. My husband chose rice vermicelli mixed with yellow noodles for his choice of noodles. This came with hard-boiled egg, slices of chicken and pork, small shrimps and beansprouts and topped with an amount of homemade chillies paste. My husband said it was delicious.
My eldest son ordered his choice of noodle, 'pan mee', egg-flour noodle which was served with delicious onion oil soy sauce gravy, topped with minced pork, anchovies and julienned black fungus, with a bowl of anchovies soup with fish cakes and vegetables. He really loved the 'pan mee' here.
I ordered mine from economy mixed rice shop, I opted for riceless dinner. So I took tofu stuffed with minced pork, curry chicken and sour mustard vegetables. Super delicious.
In addition, my husband ordered some bbq chicken wings for us to eat as our side dish or snack. Haha. The chicken wings here were delicious too, properly barbaqued and nice sweet crunchy skin and juicy meat. Yums!
The youngest son that time just recovered from his intestinal complications and did not feel like eating anything yet.
However, when we about to go home, we saw a special ice cream stall, whereby the ice cream was wrapped in a pancake kind of pastries. It was called Stuffing Wheel Cake or Ice Cream Wheel Cake. The youngest son felt like eating it, so we packed home to eat. The boys choose mint chocolate chip as their ice cream. I chose chocolate ice cream.
It was nice quick dinner out and we savoured the ice cream cake at home. It was a nice combination of crispy warm pancake buns and when you took a bite, the cold ice cream confused your taste bud for awhile. Lol... Giving thanks for life and providence.
The food looked delicious, the noddle and the dessert stole my heart.
