I used to have a dog that would dig up and eat my hyacinth bulbs. I don't know why what you said made me think of that. The last house I lived in, one summer I had some giant light green hostas and the deer ate those. I had never seen a deer there before as it was in an old, large, residential neighborhood, but it wasn't that far "as the crow flies" that there were big forests. One morning I saw 3 behind my yard, the next day, all the hostas were eaten down to the ground !

Hostas=deer salad. Our local botanical garden did not plant any tulips this year after having $70, 000 worth of bulbs eaten last year before they bloomed.
