Happy Hive Alphabet Hunt
Feel Good Community going letter H today, so many words come to mind, let's play with words, thoughts and photography enjoying good company.
Hippo Hello Hippopotamus, river horse that walks the sandbanks underwater more than swims, is territorial about water space using those big canine teeth during fights.
Known to be very dangerous when you come between a hippo getting to water or when young are around..
Respect this grass chomping animal being third largest after the elephant and rhino. Oh our happy Hippo is also closely related to the whale and porpoises, they are able to hold their breath for 5 minutes while striding about (more aptly put graceful ballerinas) the bottom of the rivers grazing.
Hadeda South African alarm clock, some countries say the local rooster wakes them, over here it will be sure to be a Hadada, Hadedah, Hadeda (yup different spellings for this one) on the roof!
Hadeda ibis are relatively large sub-Saharan bird, call out early morning and late afternoons or when unsettled with loud Oh fu'ck, fu'ck, fuck best description given.
Protected we not supposed to eat them but I am sure some will try them in a big cast iron pot they are slightly bigger than chicken.
With shimmering metallic sheen they show blue-green, pinks depending on how the sunlight captures the feathers at the time.
Harbour Port of Durban or Durban harbour as we refer to it is a natural harbour, one of the busiest in sub-Saharan Africa, the largest shipping terminal on the continent that works round the clock every day of the week all year round.
Royal Natal Yacht Club is the oldest yacht club in Africa, situated in the harbour on one city side, from Salisbury island opposite side of the bay you find the South African Naval Base, where patrol boats and strike craft insure safety on our seas.
Hills Travel from the coast to the mountains from Durban you normally drive through a section called Valley of a 1000 Hills, here is photo of some of the hills when descending back down to the coast. Ear popping moments with drop from higher altitude!
Area remains very rural in many parts with Zulu families living in between the hills as can be seen.
House Holiday houses we enjoy visiting when seeking solitude, home to home comfort, always keeping in mind a house is a home, a home is the people who make it homely. No matter where one goes the house you stay in no matter how short becomes your home for a couple of days.
Hops Fine hops make excellent beer, enjoying a beer is a happiness itself at the end of the day. Did you know tucked away in the Outeniqua mountains near George in South Africa fine crops of hops are grown at the right altitude and light conditions to make them into our popular brews.
Outeniqua Hop Region is situated on rugged coastal mountains adjacent to the Indian Ocean, about halfway between Durban and Cape Town. Now give me that beer, enough talk lets taste, the end of the day is here....
All photography is my own, any queries or requests please drop a comment below, have a wonderful day!

.An original selection with these nice hippopotamus, and I didn't know this Hadeda, that as a funny look and interesting shimmering metallic feathers.
And it's always a pleasure to see the beautiful landscapes of your country @joanstewart 😉
Always a pleasure sharing here in the feel good community, learning a little about different part of the world @barbara-orenya
So you spied again 😉
I love these Hippo photos - they look so cute and if you have never seen an angry Hippo you wouldn't believe how fast they can run ;)
Our neighbors had chicken and their rooster was a real alarm clock in the morning, just like your Hadeda. That birds' feathers look great.
Cool H words, Joan, and I love the photos, especially this green hilly landscape looks beautiful 😊

Safest is to always keep distance, make sure you have a good tree to climb as an escape route (make sure it is not thorny), no I have never seen one charging only heard horror stories about them being startled and engaging with people.
Hadeda is annoying when you trying to sleep in! Thanks for visiting and kind comments Johann.
I have seen videos, but of course I also have never seen it in reality, because we don't have hippos here ;) we have angry cows which often run after stupid tourists though, but a hippo is a little bit bigger 😉
I have watched a few videos on Youtube and heard the Hadeda's shouting - yes, I can imagine that your night sis over when one Hadeda starts calling 😉
You're very welcome, @joanstewart, have a great day and week 🙂
Cheers and !BEER
Oh I saw happy cows skipping in the pastures when I was up there many moons ago, even commented on it at the time, now if I ever get back again I will be more wary...
Hadeda is a noisy bugger, when he wakes up he feels everyone must be up!
One for later !BEER 😆
Some tourists are just stupid and don't think that a "happy" cow could get angry when people disturb their comfortable holidays on the mountain pastures, but especially the mother cows can get very angry if loud laughing tourists with barking little dogs cross their areas.
There are a few crows around our house which sometimes start crowing at 4 in the morning ;)
Thanks for the !BEER 😉
Can't blame the cows being angry when humans invade their pastures, after all they waited all winter to enjoy the outdoors.
That's right, the cows are not to blame for being angry when stupid people disturb their relaxing time in fresh mountain air. Now, we have come from your Hippos to our milk cows 😉 Have a great day Joan 🙂

.The Hippo is such a great one Joan and the Hadeda ibis is an interesting bird sort of like a rooster crowing in the mornings waking everyone up.
Lovely scenery with the house holiday and Hills. All wonderful choices for H.

Thanks @surika look forward to seeing more of your posts.
Wonderful post with so beautiful images and interesting stories.
Hippos looked so clumsy and Hadeda is such a funny bird 😀 I could imagine waking up hearing the bird calling 😄
Ha ha, I don't think you would enjoy the loud alarm clock call of a Hadeda every morning, have a wonderful new week @nelinoeva and thanks for visiting.
Beautiful entry my dear friend @joanstewart, the pictures are very nice, I love the hippo, They are dangerous. Greetings friend.
The "Happy Hippo" that snorts and pushes it's way around water during the day, people don't realize how dangerous they really are.
Always a pleasure sharing a little piece of what I have experienced living in this beautiful land of ours. Thanks for visiting @isabelpena
Wonderful post, I really loved the Hippos! That's an animal I have never seen, not even in a zoo. Great job on the letter H!
Hippo in this area take to the village lawns of homes at night to graze, on odd occasion will walk down the main road during broad daylight, becomes a case of see how they run, the humans that is...
