My darling daughter-in-law drove up from Chicago on Monday and has spent the past 3 days here at my house.
We had a lovely time taking photos, baking, and doing projects and chores around the house. My son had to stay in the city for work, but we enjoyed having girl time together! Sipping tea, chatting and enjoying nature took priority.
This is apple season and one of the things we decided to make was an apple cake.
This is the recipe that we used.
The glaze for on the cake was made with cream, brown sugar, butter, and confectioners sugar.
It didn't last long! We portioned it up and passed it around the neighborhood, and packed some up to be taken back to my son so that he wouldn't feel too left out!
We also made poppy seed rolls and the neighbors received a few of those, too.
Everyone loved receiving fresh baked treats!
Can't wait to share some of the many photos that were taken over the past few days, including some taken last night of the Tsuchinshan–Atlas comet.
Your neighbors are lucky to have such a neighbor 😄. Whatever baked at your house, goes to the neighbors!

Now that looks really good! It's nice that she is spending some time out of the big city for awhile, and keeps you company. You too were busy baking!
It was great having her here and I was sad to see her, leave. She has not had her driver's license for very long and is only beginning to start to feel brave enough to drive through city traffic and up to Wisconsin. I hope with each trip it will become easier for her to come and stay for a few days.
A calm bucolic life is nice, cooking with family is something that brings back good memories, and the photos make me hungry :)

Wow you are the neighborhood hero this week 🙂 love the apple cake. We have lots of apples this year but haven't done a cake yet. Juice, applesauce, applecrisp, snacks, on salads, but haven't done a cake yet. Still more in the kitchen... 🤔
