Hopefully you'll find lots of inspiration here, both from writing prompts which help you think about aspects of your world you might not have considered before, and from the tales and worldbuilding ideas people post in here.
As a D&D player myself, if there's one piece of advice I can give you, it's that the world doesn't have to be perfect before you start playing in it. Let the players be confused by inconsistencies (you can always tell them it's different travellers with different rumours, and iron out the issues later), let their actions help build the lore and fill the gaps, and most of all, keep lots of notes and have lots of fun ! 😁
