The joke is on Columbo's unkempt appearance. I recognize some Columbo's traits in myself. Like myself, Columbo's one of those guys who get their clothing sorted once and for life. I have no time nor the inclination to change anything about it. Black jeans and black t-shirts. That's it. At least Ltn Columbo shaves regularly. You've got to hand that to him. But the coat is what it is and always will be.
