Another busy week in the #Frugal community. So many good posts to go through.

Sorry to all the writers for not going through things sooner but things have been a little busy at the house. Guests coming from abroad and getting rid of a tenant made things busier than usual.

All going well, I'll get through this post and get some rewards sent off!

Let's start out with a shoutout to all those who participated!

Article from @rare-gem

A rundown on all the different modes of transportation from foot to plane. Tricycle seems to be the cheapest at 200 Naira for a 10km trip but that is still twice what it used to be and wages are very low. Also heard motorcycles start at 400HBD which my son would love because motorcycles here typically start at 2500HBD and go up (my son paid $3500HBD for his).

Good enough post for 2nd place (2HBD being sent your way).

Article from @sammyhive

I actually really enjoyed the pictures in this article. The focus was on bad roads, bad fuel, and poor maintenance leading to higher transportation costs than there should be.

Article from @marynn

According to her short trips are 100 Naira (guess shorter than the 200 naira for 10km from rare-gem) however, watch out for bad road conditions. Water in the muffler and you might not be going anywhere. She also mentioned how high costs to get places increase costs for everything that has to get somewhere (like how typed pages for students are getting more expensive!).

Overall was a good article but got a little off topic 😉

Article from @leemah1

Again some excellent pictures. Thank you. Seems prices noted also doubled here from #100 or less to 200 Naira or more. Seems she got stuck wanting change when the driver wanted more. Guess she didn't follow the #1 rule when I'm travelling the the Philippines....Never step onto a tricycle (keke) until asking the driver how much. A good way to avoid a bad surprise (at least for a Canadian)

Article from @supernova004

I'm not sure why he didn't like walking (its good for you) but he mentioned a few cost saving methods which I really liked:

  • Walk part way to save on the fare
  • Plan activities so you get it all done in one trip (Great idea)

Then again he said prices have tripled...and that the fare has gone from 150 up to 300 Naira... Hmm.... math might have slipped on that one 🙃

Article from @lightpen

Loved this article. He went over lots of different types of transportation and mentioned trekking (least expensive) at 5km range. I can agree with that. Bicycle at 5km in 10 minutes... Not too sure about that from what I've heard about Nigerian roads. I'd put it at 15minutes myself but maybe he is a really fit guy!

As for the prices of bicycles. When I was buying a bicycle for my son--he wanted one that was $2000HBD and grumbled when I got him only worth $900HBD. After that got stolen he grumbled more when I wouldn't buy him worth more than $300HBD--which also got stolen. The ebike I want costs $3000HBD but at that price I just can't buy it because I keep thinking what if it gets stolen also!

As for the keke only holding 4 people.... You really have to learn from the Filipino. They put 9 people on their tricycles (maybe more). They don't go very fast with so many people on them.

A common joke "How many people can you fit on a tricycle (or jeepney)"
Answer: Always just one more 😜

That article was good enough for 1st place this week. 3HBD heading<a your way there @lightpen

Article from @jmis101

Leggedizbenz in description. I'm assuming its because it sounds like Mercedes Benz? With your legs. Good name for trekking.

In that spirit perhaps you've heard of a Rolls Kenardly? Named because it sounds like Rolls Royce (luxury). In reality it "Rolls down one hill and can hardly make it up the next".

Now she mentioned that she didn't walk much... Then she discovered #Actifit and walks much more now. I've seen her posts and can verify she does indeed walk. Then again she's normally about 6000 steps so I think I could keep up with her because I usually do double that.

Then again, I've been hearing about Nigerian roads...so maybe not. I might get mugged, kidnapped, or fall into a pothole never to be seen again. (I hear that there are big holes in your roads, especially when the rain comes).

Picking 3rd spot was tough because there were a lot of good entries. However, being a fellow member of Actifit tipped the balance in her favor. Sorry all you other great entrants!

Article from @twicejoy

He mentioned that he is walking more. Planning trips more. And probably grumbling more that prices have gone up. Seems like the unused bicycle got dusted off and tuned up to save money on transportation....which I think is a great idea.

Side note: If you are walking more might as well join Actifit. The coins aren't that valuable but if you are walking anyways might as well get a hive based altcoin :)

Article from @glotokens

Thanks for letting us know how high transportation costs hit you personally. Sorry you didn't get to Lagos after winning in the local singing competition. The cost of transportation was probably only the start of the fees though. Long distance trips usually require food, spare clothing, housing expenses and so much more. Hopefully you get another try someday. If not, keep on singing even if you are the only one who gets to enjoy it!

Article from @emreal

Thanks for getting this one in before the dealing there @emreal. You are right that in most places roads are the best way to get places. It's just what you ride on those roads and how fast you go on them.

When I visit the Philippines a trip to my place from Manila (400km) will take about 14hrs due to congestion and bad roads. In Canada a trip to my cabin from Vancouver (1,400km) will take about 14hrs due to wide open roads and little traffic.

Train is also really important in Canada. People can ride it but it is very expensive. Mostly its used for freight that has to go 5000 or more km across the country from port to port.

Overall a big THANK YOU to everyone who posted.

Your effort is really appreciated. I learned a lot.

Now I'm going to be away on vacation for the next two weeks. I will likely run a post over those two weeks but I'm going to have to talk to @monica-ene to see if she can manage the group while I'm gone. If not....well, there will still be a post topic but you may have to wait a lot longer for responses 😄

Side note: @jjmusa2004 did an awesome job in his posting--but he was paid to do the mission so no rewards there. @monica-ene also did a great post but she's a moderator who ineligible for rewards (unless everyone else doesn't post).

Thank you to you as well guys.

Is there no way to install security to make the stealing near impossible? The bicycles you mentioned cost a whole lots of money. With $3000HBD (about 2.4 million naira), I would ride a car here in Nigeria.

I wish to register my sincere appreciation for finding my entry worthy of winning the contest. This is a well appreciated motivation.
Congratulations to other winners and participants.

I love the way you highlighted all the entries here. That's unique.

I wish you a vacation filled with peace and tranquility.

Highlighting all the entries was a lot of time...but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that I took all your entries seriously and yes I read every one of them.

As for installing a security camera for an expensive E-Bike. At home absolutely. However, when you go riding to the store, work, or wherever you can't install a camera there.

I can get a used car for less then 3000HBD here in Canada but then there is the insurance, maintenance, fuel, and repairs associated with a vehicle. A good E-Bike can travel well over 100km at a speed which is comparable to a vehicle in busy traffic. It also does it much cheaper than a motorcycle or vehicle.

In Canada the cost to travel 1000km by E-Bike about 1HBD. In the most fuel efficient vehicle you can buy in Canada (Mitsubishi Mirage) 5l/100km *1000km =50L of Gasoline *1.5HBD/l = 75HBD in Canada.

I really want an E-Bike...

....but will wait until I can get insurance for it.

I love this. I hope to be able to afford it soon. I am considering having one.

I really want 0ne too. I'm a little sad that in my province the government says they must limit the speed to 32km/hr to be legal. Without the government speed restriction they can go much much faster. Maybe in Nigeria they don't limit the speed (except what is safe on bad roads :)

The speed limit in Nigeria is only for vehicles and enforcing the law is very poor. Though without speed limits, our roads in deplorable conditions would slow down the speed.

Thank you very much for the reward.
Do enjoy your vacation ☺️
