Every musician have different aims. Some of them want to make music for just them and their family members alone and some of them want to make global music that every part of the world can listen and relate to. I think that’s why some artistes feel lackadaisical towards their music career while some take it seriously like their life depends on it.
Well, the popularity of your music depends on your art of music promotion. Music promotion is an act or art of spreading music, creating awareness and organizing publicity about music through the help of radio, google advertisements or use of social networks like Instagram, TikTok and other social networks to fans and every other person who can listen and relate to music.
I’m sure we all wonder why artistes run music promotion? I feel this is basically about business. Music promotion is basically to spread the awareness of the song and also to generate streams which is converted to money. This is why we see that artistes celebrate the number of streams they have because the more their streams, the more the money.
Let me share a few good songs to you that didn’t go viral because the artistes either lack the funds to run a proper music promotion or they do not know the things they can benefit from music promotion.
Just listen to this amazing Afro pop music. Truly, this song has quite a number of views but the music promotion wasn’t enough. I really can’t say the reason why there was no much music promotion but this kind of song deserves a higher promotion and a higher number of streams.
Will you believe that there are so many songs that are not even as interesting as this but they went viral so fast because of how they promoted the song.
I think I now see the reason why some artistes spend a ridiculous amount of money on music promotion.
Let’s talk about types of music promotions.
Social media influencers
The impact that social media influencers have on people should never be underestimated. Since they have lot of followers on social networks, they can easily share and spread the music by working with some TikTok activations, Instagram advertisements, Facebook and some other socials.
Google advertisement
Have you ever taken note of the kind of advertisements that you see online? Sometimes when streaming a song or watching a video on YouTube, they will play another music as a form of advertisement. That’s the Google advertisement I’m talking about.
Music platforms advertisements
That’s possible as well. Sometimes after streaming a song, instead of moving to the next song, there will be an advertisement of a song which will be played for about thirty seconds or more before moving unto the next song.
All these works cannot be done by the artsite alone. There has to be a music promoter who is good with all of these things which can help to make the song go viral.
At the end, an artiste cannot do it all alone. He or she needs a team to make all of these work.
Simply too much music is released into the world. Many artists release just because it gets them gigs. Releasing songs and tracks is more marketing than it is worth the time spent. Only a very few out of the millions of artists around the world, make proper money with music releases.
Label companies are used to get into the picture. They have the networks; they know how to trigger. Sure some may get traction by doing some TikTok or whatever, but any success coming from such can only be regarded as a bonus, not as a plan to get success.
Hmm
I think I’d talk about record labels next
They are quick to pushing artistes to limelight if they really want to
But, there are too many problems connected to record labels
Sure, problems exist in the complete chain from artists to fans and music consumers, but it is for a reason that labels and distributors exist. Artists and Market is highly decentralised when taking out all the parties in between (labels, record companies, distributors, streaming platforms etc etc). All these companies in between fill in a need to connect gazillion artists to gazillion people. My take on the digital side of things, is the way we consume music these days: Those services that offer great UX to the music consumers, are those services that will be most successful. Those services are then the services that artists will have to use. Another take (well add on the the previous one) is that artists will use digital services as promotion, even great production for marketing, and have to gig to earn money.
Sure you're right, music promotion means more. Michael spends millions of dollars on his songs.
Yesssss
Music promotion isn’t child’s play
It’s a lot of money
Indeed a tree cannot make a forest. You are right, there are songs that are way below the bar but you see them being played in every corner all because of how strategic their marketing team are in publicity for the songs. These days it just seems people do not sing any more for the passion of it. Music seems to be financially driven now so much so that its essence is lost.
