Niño Lindo (Anonymous) Soloist Cuatro Cover.

English

It's Christmas time and since I've been taking Soloist Cuatro Lessons, I thought it might be time to show off a little bit of the things I'm doing with this instrument.

Here's a version of a very popular aguinaldo from Venezuela. It's titled Niño Lindo. Aguinaldos are the kind of music sung that is usually written in Traditional Venezuelan rhythms and some of them are related to the celebration of Christmas and have religious themes. This is is of the second kind. The lyrics talk about a beautiful baby (referring to Jesus) and how its presence is charming and fulfilling by itself. It's has a wonderful melody and I've seen a lot of people doing arrangements and versions of this song lately.

I wanted to try my own version taking some resources learned in class. I've been told in every class that I need to develop my own style as a player. This is a concept that I understand as a poet. However, one is only able to do so when there's a deep understanding of the resources at play. In this case, there's a lot of ways of making a chord melody and single notes, playing with the bass and more. Once we put all of the together along with what we can actually do, then we can perform something like what you're about to see.

It's the same thing as taking an idea a follow it through to see where it leads. So this is my first arrangement for a Cuatro Solo. I hope you enjoy it.

This is a calming Niño Lindo :)

I didn't know actually that being a cuatro soloist means making your own versions of the song. I could suppose that everyone can have their own style but making your covers is giving more possibilities. And requires more work, study, creativity! :)

Nice work @bertrayo and knowing this:

This is a concept that I understand as a poet.

you will develop a nice style :)

Thanks, my dear @mipiano.

Yes, there's not a lot of written things for the traditional tuning of the cuatro. And since the instruments has some ambiguities with its tunings, there's a lot of possibilities in inversions and ideas to develop.

Sounds complicated and easy at the same time 😁 Easy, as if you have talent and studied what you can work with, it is coming in a natural way what and how to play... Complicated, for all of us who can't play the cuatro 😁

Ha, ha, ha. That's the trademark of music. All things are easy and complicated. The gist is understanding what works for certain pieces and for others and what you're able to do about it. You know the usual crazy amount of things going in thoughts while one plays. 🤣

You know the usual crazy amount of things going in thoughts while one plays.

You do? haha, It indeed happens that we sometimes think of a completely, but completely different thing when we play... the problem is when we realize we dont think about the stuff we have to play and then jump back to music and suddenly we dont know where we are hahaha, black hole 🤣

It is an interesting dissociation process. Ha, ha, ha. That's why one needs to train concentration.

Exactly.
But better train the concentration while practicing than in a concert haha
