If there is something that have constantly over the years influenced our lives, I will say it is the power of music. So much that have been said which we did not even pay attention to about music. Music have just become a conventional mention that we did not even see the worth in it which seems to limit us from seeing the potential music has to offer beyond the songs or the lyrics.
From the early days, music have a way of always diving into our heart most especially as Nigerians. Music have a strong influence on our mind which at the end of the day have the right to influence our emotions, our thoughts and even the actions we take. On several occasions, I have witnessed music been able to influence our emotions. It has happened to me and it has happened to people around me.
If we should pay close attention, music been played in different events like weddings, like festivals and even funerals always have a way of influencing our mind. There is this emotional influence Fela Kuti songs will have deep within me that will be different from the one Asa will offer. Yes even though every music influences our emotions in a very different way, the end product is that it still influences our heart.
Apart from the emotional influence that music offer, it also has a way of influencing our mental state. Most of the time, when I am reading and to aid my understanding, I always prefer to listen to music as it always goes a long way to enhance my memory, my understanding level when reading books. Not only me, I have seen people shared their own personal experience about it also. Music helps to influence the performance of our brain.
That is not all, on several occasions also, music have been used as a therapy tool for people and even myself. There have been seasons in my life which I have been down. I mean down in every aspect that was close to depression. All I just need was to listen to a particular music and it brings me back to life. Same thing I have heard about people, on several occasions, people passing through emotional trauma and all they just need to do is to take a step to listen to a particular music and they start healing up.
I strongly believe that we should start seeing the full potential in music beyond what we have been taught. Growing up, I have always believe that music is just about listening to a rhythm or good lyrics but as I grew old, I discovered it is beyond that. Music has a lot to offer to my life and until I start seeing it from that angle, I will continually not be able to make use of the full potential in music. There is so much power in music, the earlier we understand this, the better it will be for us.
