You know, when I go to play at a place and don't know the piano, I don't feel comfortable. I don't know the limitations and the possibilities of that instrument, the dynamic range I can get out from it, possible tricky, broken keys, that get stuck or how the pedal reacts etc... When I have to opportunity to try out the piano, to have a rehearsal, and visualize the event, the audience, the whole thing, I am calmer and have fewer possibilities to get nervous or blocked by some unwanted surprise. :)
