PARTON'S MOM AND MINE

Life is beautiful, most especially with family. For some reason, I just had to reflect and flash back on the good old days. My mother's favourite used to be 'Coat of Many Colours' by Dolly Parton. She played it so much that we, the children, eventually loved the song too. I cannot remember intentionally playing any other song by Dolly Parton, but 'Coat of Many' has eventually become a special song for me.

Mother's love is indeed powerful; it never gets tired of loving. My mother too loved me and my siblings selflessly. Even as adults, we still had to deal with the overprotective attitude of my mother; and that is a typical characteristic of a mother. At some point, I got angry at her for loving; other times, I convinced myself that she was just being a mother.

As a child, 'Coat of Many Colour' by Dolly Parton never really made sense; I simply sang along as it was the most popular song in the house. My siblings and I grew so fond of it that we sang it together at times, but I could bet that none of us ever wondered about the message it carries. Reaching a certain stage in life, I began giving this beautiful music, along with many other things, some thought.

For some reason, I likened Parton's mother to mine. My mom never made me or any of my siblings a coat of many colours; we were certainly not so poor that we had to wear shoes with holes, but yet she resembles Parton's mom in so many ways. If she were in the same situation as Parton's mom, she would have done the same; I am so certain of that. It was for me not about how rich or how poor, but motherhood. Parton's mom was no doubt a good mother, and my mom too is.

From the story that was told, Parton was simply contented with what she had; it was written all over her innocence. Her mother, as a matter of fact, must have done a great job; she is no doubt a simple woman. My mother is too a simple woman, and she taught each and every one of her children to be simple. We might not be the richest in society, but we prided ourselves like we had everything. Now you see how alike Parton's mom and mine are.

Motherhood is certainly not a simple task, but it is a very crucial task; society must come to understand that. There is a need for more of Parton's mom out there; those who will teach their children love, morals, and most importantly, contentment. Now, it is not a matter of being rich or poor; it is a matter of being human. Cobhams emphasised this in his song 'ordinary people'. It takes ordinary men to make extraordinary things come into being; and it takes the like of Parton's mom to create such men. I think my mom have done a good job 😊.

I am Uzo, and appreciate you for reading up to the end. I will recommend that you listen to coat of many colours by Dolly Parton if you are just hearing it for the first time. You too will certainly love it.**
