MAN IN THE SKY

It sometimes seems like every aspect of our reality is greed-oriented. A young man going to medical school might find enough reason to convince himself that he is inspired by an innate desire to save life, but it is on the contrary all about becoming successful in life. It is in fact possible that everything is a lie. We deceive ourselves daily by accepting the falsehoods that society presents as truth. As members of society, we are likely liars too. After all, we all know the truth.

After encountering the song 'Man in the Sky' by Tom MacDonald, I have had a really deep thought. I realised that I, like everyone else, am guilty. Though we are aware of the lies, we still choose to believe them. Come to think of it, we may not have much option. It is our reality, lies. A reality focused on what can be gained, while largely ignoring harmful effects.

Take your time to listen to the song yourselves. Beyond helping you understand what I am talking about, it might turn out the best lyrics you have heard in a while👇.

Man in the Sky by Tom MacDonald

I think the best we can do is do what we can. Although there are many evils that we cannot change, either because they contain some truth or because they are deeply ingrained in human nature, we must still do what is right. It is true that we may not be able to quench our innate desire to become successful, but we must learn to be human. In our quest for success, we must do everything possible to put humanity first. There might be nothing we can do about the many lies that already exist, but we must ensure that we do not create more lies in our quest for success. Sometimes it becomes really difficult, but it is always the right thing to do.

Listening to Tom MacDonald made me realise that serious harm has already been done to humanity. On our own part, we must do everything humanly possible to ensure that we do not contribute to injuring humanity. It is quite a difficult but possible task. We can start by making the right choices, choices that might in some cases be non-beneficial. These choices are sometimes painful, but once again, they are the right thing to do. They are to be made in our different vocations and in our everyday life, and humanity depends on them. Many are already too powerful, paying attention only to what they stand to gain. We certainly cannot afford to have more of them.

Many characters were mentioned in the song 'Man in the Sky', and we inevitably identify with some of these characters. It is not entirely our fault, considering what has become of the world, but we must always do what we can. We must always choose good over evil anytime, anywhere.

In the words of Tom MacDonald, 'we pray that the man in the Sky is watching over us tonight'. He might as well choose to just watch, allowing us to decide our own reality. I guess that is exactly what he does. We, on the other hand, have not been doing a very good job with our reality.
