It is a great place, I lived in Stuttgart and Darmstadt (Odenwald).
The cold is cold, but not as bad as the Northeast in the States.

The Northeast in the United States in early November is as cold as the San Francisco Bay Area ever gets, EVER ... but then again ... walking around in Odenwald in the summer, because of what it is ... imagining what kind of forest that must be, that the Germans dedicated to Oden, chief of the Norse gods... just gotta keep a room in San Francisco for the winter, though...
