Do you ever shop parts on eBay, or in local classified ads? Building with used, or slightly older parts, you can make an insane gaming rig for just a few hundred bucks.
How well do you trust used parts? I'm nervous using used parts

I trust them more than new parts. With used parts, the bad ones have already been sent back.
I would also suggest starting with the motherboard, rather than just the cheapest pieces. The motherboard will put limits on what other parts you can use.
That makes sense, with the bad parts being sent back.
I'll probably get the power supply new and everything else used.
