I recall a few years back when the U.S. intelligence community and especially the NSA got sand in their knickers because Kaspersky was blowing their digital surveillance covers installed on devices via backdoors, firmware and software, especially OS updates. Intel was one chip maker engineering it into their hardware conducting proxy work for 5 Eyes and beyond to surveil and covertly access devices in the digitally addicted world. Their response was predictable and they propagated in the media that Kaspersky was Russian spy software and to discontinue use of it. Shills, the ignorant and government pressure/incentives on agencies and corporations using the anti-virus software were utilised in concert in the campaign to "punish" Kaspersky for their transgressions of outing digital surveillance in the U.S. and UK.

The company’s software became widely used by individuals, businesses, and governments around the world. Today, Kaspersky is one of the largest and most respected cybersecurity companies in the industry.
