This should be something that only we can choose, if they hide everything from us we end up missing out on a lot.
Also on a large scale it lends itself to mass manipulation
The problem with 3rd Party hiding posts even with consent and knowledge is often due to long read me and terms of agreements associated to these services which tend to include certain clauses not so beneficial to the user. A clause as we have the right to hide malicious content from you without prior notice to protect you whiles really hiding content based on political bias.
Yes, I agree. IMO long terms and conditions that nobody will actually read is not real consent. It would also be best if there's always some way to review what someone hid from you, ideally with an explanation of their policies. That way, you have an avenue for evaluating how trustworthy someone has been with their policies.
The second case above is not ideal and grants someone power that they can abuse, but there are cases where it can be preferred to a simple programmatic filter. The cost/benefit of this trust-based relationship is up to the individual to consider and decide.
