Hive makes crypto user experience better in some ways, but there are still major hurdles to fix:
- Getting an account
- Losing master password/owner key = forever lost account
- Transferring keys from one app to another
- Initial hurdle of trying to post with low HP/RCs.

At least @leofinance allows users to login with their existing Web 2 accounts and later download the keys and take full control over the account. @splinterlands offers something similar with logins from multiple blockchains IIRC.

I think understanding the meaning of private keys and how a blockchain works is also a problem. Surprisingly there are not many people who want to learn in this technology but make quick money... but this comment applies to the crypto world in general
People shouldn't need to understand the technology to use it. I don't have to understand the workings of an internal combustion engine to drive a car, nor do people need a degree in economics to be able to receive a fiat salary and use it to pay the rent.
We will need to get to that level of usability where understanding the underlying technology is a benefit but not necessary for ordinary usage.
Item 2 should always remain that way. Because some malicious people can abuse it in some way.

I don't agree. Both malicious attacks and user error are risks for the user. We need to find a balance between these risks, instead of weighing it absolutely towards user error.
I agree
In "crypto users" there is the word "crypto". You can't get the best of it without a minimum of efforts. Educate yourself and don't loose your keys! Problems solved.
"Crypto" is just a means to an end. The goal is to have sound money*, the "crypto" in cryptocurrency is just a tool which proves ownership of a wallet or virtual token. There is nothing that says we cannot use other forms of proof.
"Educate yourself and don't get your keys stolen" is a response that could easily have been made against the original account recovery system, yet I know from experience that has provided enormous value in recovering Hive accounts for less technical users.
Users are important. We can't be a mainstream network if ordinary people can't use it. Money only has value if you can give it to pretty much anyone for any purpose, and the same is largely true of social media. If you can only give it to the crypto-technically literate, it's not much value to you in your day to day life. We should be removing the barriers that are preventing us from going mainstream.
* or a censorship resistant social media / application platform network
Definitely hurdles, but things have improved over time.
Hive has still to hit critical mass. Just getting people to try it is hard.

I think we need to go beyond this. We have to accept how users really are and adapt our product to it, not try and force users to behave in an ideal way.
Just like account theft recovery seemed to be an unsolvable problem until Steem/Hive solved it, key loss can be solved too. Something we could do: at registration every account creates a list of trusted accounts for recovery. X of Y accounts from the trusted list can reset your password.
I think this sort of thing has been figured out by cryptography people. Just need to implement it in a viable way. It still involves trusting people. Would my kids conspire against me? ;)
I am looking at ways that I can pass my keys on if something happens to me. I really need to train some of the family in actually using Hive. I have written up some notes on this already to share with them.
Yea. Well said. Most especially number 2 which is Losing master password/owner key = forever lost account.
I have seen a lot of account bene lost forever because of losing master password. If hive can find a way of inserting recovery ways to recover your post master key, it will be super great
I consider the creation of the accounts to be one of the strong points, since registration for the first time is not the easiest thing in the world. On the subject of password recovery is also a risk, you have to be very careful where to save data, it is a pity that once lost, you can not do anything else.
I went with Ecency because it allowed new Hivers to use begin using Hive immediately. Trying to post immediately with low HP/RCs would be the next easiest problem to solve. Key transfer is tricky, so that could take a while. #2 depends on us.

I open Splinterlands account so that's how i got my Hive account. It took me a while to get use to it. But it was after some transaction needed keys, that I went to settings and managed to get the keys. And I wrote it on a notepad with the other keys too.

.Dear @demotruk, we need your help!
The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.
May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency,

Your support would be really helpful and you could make a difference.
Thank you!
