If you spend any amount of time on traditional social media platforms, it's a sea of chaos and anger. It's also puppies and kittens and heartwarming humanity. It's also a global virtual watercooler where we can catch up on the latest news and gossip.
So is social media a poison to our global culture or an antidote? It's neither and it is also both. It just depends on the moment in time and your own mindset.
All life is here, but people can act differently online. I try to be myself, but we all act up a bit.
Yes, I am pretty close to who I am in real life. I am online not for political or religious or controversial reasons. I keep those opinions to myself. That is true in the real world and is also true online.
It's poison for those too immature to understand that what they say on social media reflects on them (and sticks with them, it can become permanent - I've saved many posts to pdf format on my computer). It's antidote for those mature enough to use it that way.
We need to remember that social media is not a one-to-one conversation. It's a one-to-many (and those many include people you may not know) conversation.
Discernment is not something everyone has a good grasp on these days. But there is always hope that each of us learns and gains wisdom along the way.
I think it largely depends on where you hang out. There's that old saying about tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are. That sort of thing.
Ah well, I feel like I am good company with all of you here on Hive. :-D
Interesting, I share your point of view. 💕
We will find what we are looking for in real life and online.
