One thing that being active on Hive has taught me is that there are always alternatives to commercial sites that sell our data for profit. Marginalia is in it's early days, but just imagine what could be.

I'd not heard of that. A search engine needs a lot of resources to be useful, so I wonder what is behind it.

I did a search for 'hive social blockchain' and it found this blog by @allentaylor about his crypto earnings a couple of years ago.

Posted via D.Buzz"In recent years, something has been simmering: Some call it the “Small Internet”. <- this quote from the about page resonates with me. Hive is a sort of small internet where we choose to invest our time away from big internet. https://www.marginalia.nu/marginalia-search/about

We've seen the internet evolve from open standards to walled gardens run by mega-corps. I prefer the former. Hive as a platform is pretty open and people can put whatever they like on there. Of course paying the running costs is always an issue and advertising was always the answer before. Maybe people will pay for better service.

I talk about this phenomenon in my book Web3 Social.

Yes, it's always nice to have alternatives to the big sites that sell our data.

Agreed. Alternatives are why I am here on Hive away from traditional social.

Posted via D.BuzzI was thinking yesterday about a browser that uses #hive for search. Like brave uses #bat. Interesting that you posted this today.

...a browser that uses #hive for search.

Oh now that would be interesting.

I had not heard of this search engine, it is interesting, thanks for suggesting it! 💕
