カンペチェに着いた日に友人の奥さんの実家で食事を頂いた。メキシコの人は本当に親切でいい人ばっかり。友人の義理のお母さんが作ってくれた地元のメキシコ料理は本当に美味しくて、すごく思い出に残った。義理の家族との関係ってどの国でも難しいようで、友人も義理両親とは文化の違いなので言い争いがあるよう。メキシコでは生まれてすぐに女の子だったらピアスをするけど、友人は娘が大きくなってから自分で決めさせたいようでそこはアメリカの自己尊重の文化を娘に行いたいと、言っていた。自身の意思を尊重させる文化、それは確かに欧米的ではあるけど大切な概念と思う。
