A few things we learned from the Twitch data hack:
- The entirety of their source code was leaked. We could see more competitors as a result of reverse-engineering.
- Amazon is preparing to release a Steam competitor. This will be huge news.
- Internal Security compromised

Shake ups are good for the industry that's getting too centralized. Cloudflare's disruptive webRTC stuff is about to drop too. Can't wait to see what that does to Zoom's foothold.
I agree! I think while I never want to see malicious stuff like this to happen, much will be gained from it (hopefully).
If these competitors are smart, they won't use the source code. Legally, they can be sued into oblivion. Best case, they clean room it. One person analyzes the code, writes about it, and then the developer makes their own code based on what they saw. No original code is included, which releases them from any liability. The code created is completely original, even though it might be based on copyrighted code.
Oh anyone will be a fool to blatantly steal the code. Developers will be jumping on this opportunity to reverse engineer and learn from Twitch. The code goes all the way back to possibly justin.tv days. Engineers are going to learn so much from this. Competition is good.

lol the ip2.network stream i was watching on youtube had a chat that was talking about that and how some asshole kid makes 5.4 million lol but i dont FOMO because i know he wastes that money lol
Oh yeah they supposedly leaked a ton of salaries over the past 3 years but some creators are saying that the numbers are incorrect. It could be deflection or not, I'm not sure yet! It'll be interesting to see all this unfold. Some of those numbers are crazy.

I'll be here all week! ;)
It will only be huge if Amazon's "WoW" killer does well. Which from what I've heard it's fairly boring and repetitive. To be fair I haven't tried it myself yet. Still... I wonder if Amazon being a Steam competitor will be good for the industry or not. For some reason I get EA vibes and picture ads in all the games you buy off Amazon store.
I hate comparing MMOs to WoW but I get why we do it considering how big that game is and how much it has been a part of gamer culture for so long. I really do hope they create a competitive game with the players in mind. They have a ton of examples of mistakes to not make, but then I thought The Elder Scrolls was going to compete :P
You're talking about New World, yes? I don't think it'll be a WoW killer, Blizz is already doing that to themselves! 🤣
But in all seriousness, it's a very decent MMO that's enjoyable for what it is and not what it isn't. Source:
lol Yeah. I agree but when it was first released everyone was saying that.

Posted via D.BuzzNo idea this was a thing. Building competitors will be hard because it's what community that matter. Decentralized alternatives like https://www.vimm.tv or stuff built with THETA might get a boost :)
