Coastal watchtowers.
Hello to all dear friends and welcome back to my blog. Even today I offer you two new watercolor works and a third painting attached with very particular subjects.
What is it about?
They are two coastal watchtowers from the Middle Ages that were built in very important and strategic stretches of sea.
They were very solid buildings that were part of a system of other towers built at a distance of a few kilometers on the coastal coasts in Italy, France and Spain.
They are the first known link and alert network to report the threat of invading attacks.
In this case they are towers of the 16th century built in the middle of a religious war, the Christians against the Turks, they were used to spot enemy fleets offshore.
As soon as a danger was spotted, a series of signals left the main tower, using mirrors or fires that warned the surrounding towers for up to tens of kilometers even in the countryside.
Another very effective system was to send messengers on horseback, with relay teams to each neighboring tower.
To date many many watchtowers are still standing and some have a very high archaeological value.
I hope you enjoyed my work.
A hug.

Armando.
