Today I was walking through the old streets of Vigo in Galicia, Spain to visit a fortress that together with the castle of "San Sebastian" created a military barrier to protect the city from possible enemies and pirates from the Atlantic. The strategy of the fort is to have a 360 degree field of vision focusing all the firepower on the Vigo River. We are going to learn something interesting today.🌍🗺️
Hola amigos gracias por visitar mi blog! hoy estuve paseando por las calles antiguas de Vigo en Galicia Espana para visitar una fortaleza que en conjunto con el castillo de "San sebastian" crearon una barrera militar para proteger la ciudad de posibles enemigos y piratas desde el atlantico, la estragetia del fuerte es tener un campo de vision de 360 grados centrando todo el poder de fuego en el rio de vigo. Military forts are always built in strategic places, that includes borders with other countries and also in the highest points of the area, the Castro fort was built on a mountain called: "Monte del Castro" at more than 150 meters high! The Vigo area is a border with the north of Portugal, in turn it has access to the Atlantic with the river, throughout history Spain always tried to invade Portugal again and again it is worth noting with many defeats! Since Portugal was always an ally of England and they were strategically and militarily superior. The Spanish built this fort to guard the border with Portugal.🗺️🌍🧭
Los fuertes militares siempre son construidos en lugares estrategicos, eso incluye en fronteras con otros paises y tambien en los puntos mas altos de la zona, el fuerte de Castro fue construido en una montana llamada: "Monte del Castro" a mas de 150 metros de altura! la zona de vigo es frontera con el norte de Portugal, a su vez tiene acceso con el rio al atlantico, toda la historia Espana siempre intento invadir Portugal una y otra vez cabe destacar con muchas derrotas! ya que Portugal siempre fue aliado de Inglaterra y eran estrategicamente y militarmente superior. Los Espanoles construyen este fuerte para vigilar la frontera con Portugal.🚩🏰

The fortress was built in medieval times, specifically in the 16th century, initially with two fortresses and a wall surrounding the city. This place is classified as a site of tourist interest. Initially, the fortress had three enclosures, of which today we can only see the first one, as the third has disappeared! The first enclosure was converted into a viewing point and the remaining one into the main square, where we walk when we visit! We do not have access to the secret tunnels through which soldiers could enter the city underground, but the protections can be seen; this was important for a possible escape or change of guards.
La fortaleza fue construida en la epoca medieval precisamente en XVI inicialmente sumado con dos fortalezas y una muralla que rodeaban la ciudad, este lugar es clasificado como bien de interes turistico, en el inicio la fortaleza presentaba tres recintos de los cuales hoy en dia solo podemos observar el primero pues el tercero desaparecio! convirtieron el primer recinto en un mirador y el restante en la plaza principal donde nosotros paseamos cuando visitamos!, no tenemos accesos a los tuneles secretos por donde los soldados podian ir a la ciudad de forma subterranea pero se ven las protecciones, esto era importante para una posible huida o cambios de guardias.

Vigo siempre fue una ciudad que Inglaterra tenia bajo mira y realizo varios ataques alli, en base a eso y sumado la guerra en el siglo XVI con Portugal es que se comienza el proyecto de construccion de la fortaleza, despues de tres anos de guerra con Portugal las murallas dejaron de ser relevantes, en ese punto de la historia la fortaleza comenzo a dejar de tener usos belicos.🌍🗺️

The viewpoint is excellent. We can see the whole river from here and it seems like an excellent spot if we go to the fortress. I saw several people on the grass having a picnic. Perhaps it would be an interesting idea if you come for a vacation of several days! We also appreciated the city center from the top.🧭🌍
El mirador esta excelente podemos ver todo el rio desde aqui y me parece un excelente paraje si vamos a la fortaleza vi varias personas en el cesped haciendo picnic quizas seria una idea interesante si vienes de vacaciones varios dias! tambien apreciamos el centro de la ciudad desde lo mas alto.🚙🌍

The material used for the fortress is granite, and it has a polygonal shape. This shape is used in all forts, creating a star-shaped figure in order to place cannons at each point of the "star", creating a design where no cannon intersects with another one, either above or on another floor! Since 2012, the municipal chamber has carried out some works. Open to the public, you can see the schedule on Gmaps, without paying anything! BE CAREFUL: PARKING IS DIFFICULT.🏰🚩
El material usado para la fortaleza es granito, ademas tiene una forma poligonal esta forma es usada en todos los fuertes creando una figura en forma de estrella para poder colocar canones en cada punta de la "estrella" creando un diseno donde ningun canon intercede con otro tanto arriba como en otro piso! a partir del ano 2012 la camara municipal hizo algunas obras. Abierta al publico pueden ver el horario en Gmaps, sin pagar nada! CUIDADO ESTACIONAR ES DIFICIL.✍🏻🗺️

From my personal experience I can tell you that if you come to Vigo, it is worth visiting the fort, it is quite beautiful and free, the views of the entire river are amazing and you can even take pictures of the islands, the only thing I had a lot of difficulty with was parking the vehicle, it was totally packed, there are thousands of tourists here and I went outside of the December festivities! So from now on, leave the car in a private place and go on foot!🌍🏰
Mi experiencia personal te puedo decir que si vienes a Vigo si vale la pena visitar el fuerte es bastante bonito y gratis, las vistas de todo el rio son asombrosas y hasta puedes alcanzar a fotografiar las islas, lo unico que tuve mucha dificultad es estacionar el vehiculo estaba totalmente colapsado hay miles de turistas por aqui y fui fuera de las fiestas de diciembre! por ello desde ya deja el carro en un lugar privado y vas caminando!🚩🚙
