IN THE FIRST WEEK OF MARCH. THE YEAR WAS 2014

in Discovery-it2 years ago (edited)

I took plenty of photographs in those days and am ready to share some of that old material in today's post. Have a good viewing.

In this opening shot, you can see a lovely edible bouquet made of wild asparagus shoots I picked in the coastal area four or five kilometers from the village of Shhishan, about ten kilometers from where I live. This photograph ...

.. was taken at the opening of an exhibition in the lobby of a movie theater in the center of Pula.

I took quite a few shots there, but the light was low and my small compact camera was terrible, so I changed those old photographs in Photoshop today to make them more attractive.

About half of what you'll see here is dedicated to that exhibition opening event.

(Enlargeable)

Most of the other half is about picking the asparagus shoots. The edible shoots of Asparagus acutifolius shown in this set of four photographs were all collected in the archeological park Vizua, near the harbor of Medulin, my hometown.

Only the soft tops of the shoots are used for preparing the asparagus-based dishes. In this indoor photograph taken at night in my kitchen, you can see a bunch of those delicious tops ready for cooking.

Here you can take a better, more up-close look at the same thing. The following photograph ...

... was taken at the exhibition. I had fun observing the visitors and from time to time, I tried to put them in relation with people shown in the exhibited photographs.

In the blurred foreground of this shot, you can see a person who was photographing the photographs with a cell phone.

In this photograph, a blurred silhouette of the visitor at the exhibition is contrasted with the exhibit attached to the wall, a portrait of a person from another part of the world.

At one point a nice variety of tasty and elegant snacks appeared on the scene ...

... and I had fun observing the people eating.

(Enlargeable)

Each person had a slightly different style.

I ate too ...

... and I can tell you that the food was very good.

The wild asparagus shoots shown in this photograph were picked in the coastal area called Marlerra, a couple of kilometers from the village of Lliznjan.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see a surprising traffic sign by the side of the unpaved road situated between the seashore and the cabbage fields of Marlera. A traffic sign in that area is a very unusual thing to see.

The exhibition was opened on the 3rd of March.

It was carnival time in Pula and its surroundings, and one of the visitors came dressed as a nun. I was, and I still am, very satisfied with this shot, despite the limited quality of my camera.

Here you can see another portrait that stands out from the rest.

This photograph was taken in my yard. My little dog Bepina was resting on the bench in front of the house.

The cat shown in this night shot was resting on one of the garbage cans at the crossroads just outside my yard.

Here you can take another look at the crowd in the lobby of the movie theater.

At that point, the cardboard dishes were mostly empty.

This photograph was taken half an hour earlier.

Here you can see some decorative stars left from the Christmas season.

The technical quality of this photograph is very low, the thing is muddled and grainy, but I like the alignment of faces in the shot. That's why I included it in the post.

Here you can see the nun man again. The shot was very dark so I used the photoshop to make things slightly brighter. It's a bad photograph but I like it.

Here you can see the nun man in the good company of some devilish creature with a shamelessly exposed tongue.

In this photograph, you can take a better look at the person that looked a bit like some kind of devil in the previous shot.

On the 4th of March Bepina was sitting on the small door rug in front of the entrance to my house.

The rain was falling the whole day. Not constantly, but the whole day. The dry periods between the two showers were very short.

I was sitting in one of the cafes in my hometown when these two shots were taken.

The 3rd of March was carnival time in my hometown as well.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see my simple carnival outfit for that year.

The photograph was taken in my room.

(Enlargeable)

These three colorful portraits were taken at the exhibition in Pula.

Yep. I took plenty of photographs there.

Some of the people shown in today's post are my friends and acquaintances and some are complete strangers to me.

I don't know what else to tell you about that exhibition...

... but I have quite a few more photographs to illustrate the event.

(Enlargeable)

In these four photographs, you can see the wild asparagus shoots ) picked in the stony coastal area a couple of kilometers from the village of Premantura on the 5th of March 2014.

Two days later, I was picking the same kind of shoots, in the same area, but this time, a friend was there with me.

While searching for asparagus in a small pine grove, we came across a one-grave pet cemetery.

(Enlargeable)

The tombstone was stating that the dog called Mamba is buried there.

This portrait was taken in my living room on the 1st of March 2014.

The light that comes through the curtains creates a great atmosphere when the weather outside is cloudy but not too gloomy.

Here you can see yet another grainy portrait taken at the exhibition opening event.

This wider shot renders a better idea about the architecture of the rounded movie theater lobby in which the event took place.

The nun man was the unexpected heart of the party.

This man was a local politician or some kind of art stuff administrator back then in 2014. The man, shown in the following photograph...

... was his assistant or something like that.

They didn't last long in those positions.

Yep. I took plenty of photographs that evening.

The people were drinking, joking, chatting, and gossiping. And I was spying on them through the lens of my lousy little camera. The following triptych...

(Enlargeable)

... is made of three shots taken in my room.

(Enlargeable)

This document was photographed in the living room.

Two of my friends that came to visit me from the city were harmoniously holding their divorce papers.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can take a better look at the title of one of those documents. Everything is written in Croatian, of course.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see three colorful shots from the exhibition opening event. The vivid colors were added in Photoshop last night. The original photographs had a greenish tinge ...

(Enlargeable)

... like these three shots from my living room.

(Enlargeable)

On the 1st of March, I was picking the asparagus in the area around Svetvinchenat. Svetvinchenat is a small town about forty kilometers north of where I live.

This is a scene from the exhibition in the city. Pula is for me the nearest city. Only about ten kilometers from my hometown.

(Enlargeable)

The manta rays were floating on the flat screen in the lobby like trapped in some kind of virtual aquarium.

(Enlargeable)

In these three shots, I'm washing the dishes. The photographs were taken in the kitchen of a house on the outskirts of Pula. In the following triptych...

(Enlargeable)

... made of three shots taken in the same place half an hour later, I'm using the electric mixer.

On the 2nd of March, I was searching for asparagus in the woods and meadows around the archeological park Nesactium, a kilometer or so from the village of Valtura.

(Enlargeable)

In these three shots, you can see a friend who was there with me.

I also photographed two wildflowers on that occasion.

AND THAT'S IT. AS ALWAYS HERE ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK.

LEO Power Up Day - June 15, 2023

@tipu curate :)

So many great candid shots from a time gone by!

Must have been a trip down memory lane for you and looks like you had a whole lot of fun sorting and processing and changing some.

I bet 3 hours went into this post at least to transport us back in time.

A long post...
Guess you've finally regained some strength bro?
The grainy element of the pictures add a bit of feel to them, like would I call it authencity or ..... 😂😂😂

Is it alright to look at someone and say he looks a bit like a devil?😂😂😂

😂👺😂

😂😂😂

Nice shots, Here I would like to ask you a question, why that man was showing his tongue to the Nunman? isn't it disrespectful? I think a nun is considered a holy spirit in your religion. I'm I right?

You have shared some beautiful photographs from the memory album. Which looks amazing.

all the display pictures that friends share are very interesting to see.
