What a wonderfully vivid collection of memories, @bozz! Thank you for sharing all of that! Kentucky truly does seem to have a touch of magic in its rolling hills and winding roads. It’s interesting how places can leave such an impression on us, even when we don’t end up staying there. Those narrow, rollercoaster-like country roads sound like both an adventure and a testament to Kentucky’s charm.
That campground story is priceless! I can just imagine the mix of exhaustion and hilarity from the unexpected bluegrass square dance. It’s funny how our perspectives evolve—what felt like a ruckus back then now seems like the kind of evening you’d treasure. Bluegrass music really does have a soul-stirring quality; its simplicity and rawness connect so deeply to human emotions.
It sounds like Kentucky holds a special place in your heart, @bozz, even if you didn’t move there.

It really does. I hope to get back there again one day with my wife. We haven't ever done much camping outside of Michigan with our trailer, but I would like to haul it down that way sometime and spend a week or two exploring.
I love that part of the country, and you're absolutely correct when you compare it to the UK. There were a lot of English and Irish who settled in that Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia region (my paternal ancestors were from England). Maybe it was because it reminded them of where they came from? I've just recently gotten into Irish Trad and bluegrass. There's something so comforting, almost hypnotic about it.
Oh wow, that is really interesting. I didn't know that bit of info, but I guess it makes sense given that Dublin, OH has the Irish festival every year. I've been once and it was a really fun time. I agree about the music. There is something I really enjoy about it as well.
Skaggs is definitely a legend. I was surprised by the Stapleton thing too. I was actually listening to The Steeldrivers and I was like man, that sounds like Chris, so I looked it up and sure enough...
Old Crow Medicine Show have a distinct personality, and Sweet Amarillo really packs a nice energy that’s hard to ignore. As for the Steeldrivers, having Chris Stapleton in the band before makes it easy to see why they’re so strong.
My wife and I didn't even get a first honeymoon, so a second honeymoon is probably not going to happen. It is on our dreamboard to visit there one day though.
Haha, that doesn't surprise me. He's from Nicholasville which is right outside of Lexington. They used to have a huge billboard in town advertising that he was from there. My sister lived the next town over in Wilmore.
Yeah I drove past his house almost everyday on the way to work..
So in Kentucky, they have drive through liquor stores kind of like McDonald's, but for beer and alcohol and whatnot. So one day i'm in the drive through, and there's this big old truck in front of me taking forever. So I ended up waiting in line for like twenty minutes at this fucking drive through.. when I finally got up to the window and placed my order. I was like, damn, What a cocksicker.. Why didn't he come in if he just wanted to run his mouth? That's when the guy at the window said, oh, that was John Michael Montgomery. He does that all the time.. fuck that asshole..
Then he opened a restaurant on the south side of Nicholasville. I went there once he was there being an asshat, not signing autographs for fans, not even really talking to them like I said before fuck him..
I know the kind of store you are talking about. That is too funny. Did you ever drive by the big old castle while you were in that area? I heard they are turning it into a bourbon distillery and kind of a boutique hotel type thing.
Yeah, I know that old castle out on Versailles road. I've heard 40 or 50 different things that they're turning it into I. Personally, think it would make a great spot for a Medieval Times
I love bluegrass! Must be the hick in me. That second selection (Steeldrivers) sounds like a soundtrack from O' Brother Where Art Thou (Coen Brothers). The last one selection, Gangstagrass...not so much :)

Dublin does St. Patrick's Day right! I miss that.
When I think of bluegrass music I always think of Ricky Skaggs. Didn't know the tidbit about Chris Stapleton. Nice piece of trivia :)
Skaggs is definitely a legend. I was surprised by the Stapleton thing too. I was actually listening to The Steeldrivers and I was like man, that sounds like Chris, so I looked it up and sure enough...
Gangstagrass! That was wild!
Agreed about Kentucky. Driving through it is always a pleasure.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. They actually have a pretty extensive catalog of songs.
Like these green grass Kentucky fields a wonderful place for a pic nic.
It would be a great place for one of those!

They are all really good in their own way. I know this style of music doesn't appeal to everyone though.
I never heard of bluegrass music. When I hear Kentucky, I think of Whiskey 😀
Nothing wrong with that! The do make some really good whiskey!
I've always thought everyone in the US has been to the UK but aint it neighboring country?
No, it's all the way across the ocean. It's about a 6 hour flight depending on where you are leaving from and where you are going to.
ohhh that far, but do you have any plans? of visiting there someday maybe on a second honeymoon with mizz boss or vacation 😁😁
My wife and I didn't even get a first honeymoon, so a second honeymoon is probably not going to happen. It is on our dreamboard to visit there one day though.
hmmm well at least its part of the plan
I loved KY.. I met John Michael Montgomery there.. to bad he's a ass hat

It would be a cool spot for it. I'm kind of surprised RJ Corman never bought it.
No shit. He bought everything else
About the only thing I know about Kentucky is the Derby! Mind you I have heard of bluegrass and I like you say it's a bit of an acquired taste!
We only got outside the gates of the derby when we visited a couple years ago.
It used to be a big deal over here but now that I think about it, I haven't heard of it much over the last few years. Would be cool to see though
That doesn't shock me. I know that horse racing has always been a big deal in that part of the world.
Yes it's something special being down at a racecourse, feeling the ground shake when racehorses thunder past.
