No, different inks (which are alcohol-based) are squirted directly on the paper and then moved around by blowing air on them with different implements, e.g. straws, airbrushes, or a hair blower. The ink dries at different rates, creating lines here and there, and mixing in other spots, moving quickly with a whispy appearance. On occasion, the ink is re-liquified with pure alcohol and blown around again, until the desired result is reached.
