Today I take you with me to discover the National Archaeological Museum of Florence!
It is one of the oldest museums in Italy: it was inaugurated on 12 March 1871 by Vittorio Emanuele II.
It’s a collection that collects the best of the excavations of the whole Tuscany region, but also houses finds from Lazio and Umbria.
As for the historical periods, in the Museum it is possible to find works from the Etruscan, Roman, Egyptian and Greek eras. In particular, the Egyptian collection is the real flagship, as it is second only to the Egyptian Museum in Turin! There are also works belonging to the early Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
As for the Etruscan section, one of the most famous pieces is undoubtedly the Chimera d’Arezzo, a symbol of the Etruscan civilization made entirely of bronze. Most of the other finds from this era mainly concern funerary sculpture such as urns and sarcophagi.
On the floor dedicated to Greek history you can find numerous ceramics that have been found inside tombs or from private collections or the result of nineteenth-century exchanges with Greece, in particular with Athens and Rhodes. The most notable works include vases, cups, whole and half-length sculptures.
In this Archaeological Museum, as mentioned above, there is also a section dedicated to Egypt. Walking in these rooms is like going back in time and you can appreciate all the magic of that ancient people rich in history! Portraits, tombs, furniture, cloths, headdresses, baskets, chalices, cloaks,… are just some of the jewels that you can find in this splendid collection.
The Museum hosts tourists and students from all over the world every year, as it is simply one of a kind and numerous history books mention the works that are present there. Among the most famous pieces of art there are certainly:
- Chimera of Arezzo
- The Harring
- Minerva of Arezzo
- François vase
- Situla of Pania
- Sarcophagus of Larthia Seianti
- Sarcophagus of the Amazons
- Urnetta with banquet scene
- Idolino of Pesaro
- Meloria candleholder
- Plate of Ardabur Aspar
- Bronzes of Meloria.

Oggi vi porto con me a scoprire il Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Firenze!
Si tratta di uno dei musei più antichi d’Italia: è stato inaugurato il 12 marzo 1871 da Vittorio Emanuele II.
È una collezione che raccoglie il meglio degli scavi di tutta la regione Toscana, ma ospita anche reperti provenienti da Lazio e Umbria.
Per quanto riguarda i periodi storici, nel Museo è possibile trovare opere provenienti dall’era etrusca, romana, egizia e greca. In particolare, la collezione egizia è il vero fiore all’occhiello, poiché è seconda solamente al Museo Egizio di Torino! Sono anche presenti opere appartenenti all’alto Medioevo e al Rinascimento.
Per quanto riguarda la sezione etrusca, uno dei pezzi più famosi è senz’altro la Chimera d’Arezzo, un simbolo della civiltà etrusca realizzato interamente in bronzo. Gran parte degli altri reperti di quest’epoca riguarda soprattutto la scultura funeraria come urne e sarcofagi.
Nel piano dedicato alla storia greca potete trovare numerose ceramiche che sono state ritrovate all’interno di tombe oppure provenienti da collezioni private oppure ancora frutto di scambi ottocenteschi con la Grecia, in particolare con Atene e Rodi. Le opere più notevoli comprendono vasi, coppe, sculture intere e a mezzobusto.
In questo Museo Archeologico, come detto in precedenza, è presente anche una sezione dedicata all’Egitto. Camminare in queste sale è come ritornare indietro nel tempo e si può assaporare tutta la magia di quell’antico popolo ricco di storia! Ritratti, tombe, mobili, teli, copricapi, ceste, calici, mantelli, … Sono solo alcuni dei gioielli che potete trovare in questa splendida collezione.
Il Museo ospita ogni anno turisti e studiosi da tutto il mondo, in quanto è semplicemente unico nel suo genere e numerosi libri di storia menzionano le opere presenti. Fra i pezzi artistici più famosi vi sono sicuramente:

- Arringatore
- Minerva di Arezzo
- Vaso François
- Situla della Pania
- Sarcofago di Larthia Seianti
- Sarcofago delle Amazzoni
- Urnetta con scena di banchetto
- Idolino di Pesaro

- Piatto di Ardabur Aspar
- Bronzi della Meloria.
