Today I bring you to discover a wonderful architectural park located on the island of Malta. In particular, we are just a few minutes from the capital Valletta, in the town of Tarxien.
In this place there is one of the best preserved testimonies of the prehistoric age of the island: the Tarxien temples. This gift was handed down to us by the people who inhabited Malta in 2800 BC!

Oggi vi parlo di un parco architettonico meraviglioso situato nell’isola di Malta. In particolare, siamo a pochi minuti dalla capitale Valletta, nella cittadina di Tarxien.
In questo luogo si trova una delle testimonianze meglio conservate dell’età preistorica dell’isola: i templi di Tarxien. Questo regalo ci è stato tramandato dalle popolazioni che abitavano Malta nel 2800 a.C!
It is a complex of megalithic temples among the best preserved on the island and were discovered in 1913, obtaining the title of UNESCO world heritage site.
The architectural structure is complex as there are four adjacent temples which form the structure of a ring. For several years Maltese archaeologists have wondered what the purpose of this place was. Currently, it is believed that it had a religious function and funeral rites were practiced, as remains of animal bones were found, probably in sacrifice.
The visit to the Tarxien temples is full of surprises. One of the representations that struck me most is the statue of fertility, depicting a very prosperous ancient goddess. There are also several bas-reliefs representing animals and agricultural activities.
Si tratta di un complesso di templi megalitici tra i meglio conservati dell’isola e furono scoperti nel 1913, ottenendo il titolo di patrimonio dell’umanità UNESCO.
La struttura architettonica è complessa in quanto sono presenti quattro templi adiacenti che vanno a formare la struttura di un anello. Per diversi anni gli studiosi maltesi si sono interrogati su quale fosse lo scopo di questo luogo. Attualmente, si ritiene che avesse una funzione religiosa e si praticassero riti funebri, in quanto sono stati ritrovati resti di ossa di animali probabilmente in sacrificio.
La visita dei templi di Tarxien è ricca di sorprese. Una delle raffigurazioni che mi ha colpito di più è la statua della fertilità, raffigurante una dea antica molto prosperosa. Sono anche presenti diversi bassorilievi rappresentanti animali e attività agricole.
In the temples it is also possible to observe some spherical stones arranged in a symmetrical manner, which supposedly could have an esoteric and magical meaning.
The visit to this archaeological site costs only 6 euros and is included in numerous tourist packages, so I absolutely recommend not to miss this attraction. Let me know if you liked this adventure!

Nei templi è anche possibile osservare alcune pietre sferiche disposte in maniera simmetrica, che si supponesse potrebbero avere un significato esoterico e magico.
