Most tourists who visit Malta focus on the beauty of its sea and beaches, but the island has many hidden gems that are often overlooked. For example, on a cloudy rainy day, what to do? My suggestion is to visit the Three Cities: Senglea, Vittoriosa and Cospicua!

La maggior parte dei turisti che visita Malta si sofferma sulle bellezze del suo mare e delle sue spiagge, ma invece l’isola presenta numerosi gioielli nascosti che spesso vengono trascurati. Ad esempio, in una giornata nuvolosa di pioggia, che fare? Il mio suggerimento è quello di visitare le Tre Città: Senglea, Vittoriosa e Cospicua!

In the 16th century, the order of the Knights of Malta was commissioned to build the Three Cities, which are located exactly in front of the capital Valletta. Over the centuries they have served as a refuge, defensive bastion and home for the different peoples who have inhabited Malta.
During the bombings of the Second World War, some fortifications were lost, but it is still possible to appreciate the beauty of the buildings thanks to the restorations that have been carried out.
The symbol of the Three Cities is certainly the fort of St. Michael, a panoramic point with a view of the capital.
Nel XVI secoli l’ordine dei Cavaleri di Malta fu incaricato di costruire le Tre Città, che si trovano esattamente di fronte alla capitale Valletta. Nel corso dei secoli sono servite come rifugio, bastione difensivo e abitazione per i diversi popoli che hanno abitato Malta.
Durante i bombardamenti della Seconda guerra mondiale, alcune fortificazioni sono andate perdute, ma è ancora possibile apprezzare le bellezze degli edifici grazie ai restauri che sono stati effettuati.
Il simbolo delle Tre Città è sicuramente il forte di San Michael, un punto panoramico con vista sulla capitale.

The historic center of the Three Cities is made up of numerous alleys and streets. The most fascinating aspect is the presence of colorful balconies and flower pots. In addition, everywhere you can see statues depicting religious figures such as saints and martyrs.
During my visit, on a cloudy summer afternoon, a celebration in memory of St. Joseph was being held and the island had a very folkloristic appearance.
Il centro storico delle Tre Città è composto da numerosi vicoli e stradine. L’aspetto più affascinante è la presenza di balconi colorati e vasi di fiori. Inoltre, ovunque è possibile osservare statue raffiguranti personaggi religiosi come i santi e i martiri.
Proprio durante la mia visita, in un nuvoloso pomeriggio estivo, si stava celebrando una festa in memoria di San Giuseppe e l’aspetto dell’isola era molto folkloristico.

If you are planning a trip to Malta, you certainly cannot miss a visit to the Three Cities. The most convenient way to visit them is by starting on foot from the capital Valletta, with a 20-minute walk, or by taking a bus that will take you to your destination in a few minutes.

Se avete in programma un viaggio a Malta, non potete certo farvi mancare la visita alle Tre Città. Il modo più comodo per visitarle è partendo a piedi dalla capitale Valletta, con una passeggiata di 20 minuti, oppure prendendo un autobus che in pochi minuti vi porterà a destinazione.
