It is so often that when I want to do a photo hunt, the result that I come back with is not as great as I initially thought. There are several factors that play in the process, sometimes wrong gear, sometimes wrong timing, or wrong places, or maybe both og them. And this time I would say that, when I took the photos here, I brought the wrong gear, and also it was the wrong time and circumstances.
Last time I talked about the time when I was late for my son's Balinese New Year Parade which you can read in this post here, and this time I would like to share with all of you the real parade with lot more people, and it is only in one village, while the parade is all over the island, and it is a lot more crowded and more festive and majestic in the city.
Why I called it wrong gear is because I have my Canon tele lens with me which is not that great for its autofocus ability, especially in low light situations. It was a little bit cloudy and also already around 5 pm when the parade started, so to add more challenges for me. and to top it up, halfway through the parade it started to drizzle, so I have to stop my photo session, and keep my camera in the bag.
I will let you enjoy the first statue that I managed to photograph here.
If you notice that it's more like a demon, it is because the statue symbolizes the demonic power; it also symbolizes the one that we have in ourselves, the one that is so hard to destroy and to conquer.
The statue is quite heavy, as you can see by the facial expressions of these youngsters who are carrying the statue on their shoulders.
But surely they still have fun.
One of the seriously concentrating spectators who was enjoying the parade just like me.
The sign of one of the contestants.
Another Ogoh-ogoh from a different community.
Of course, when there was a halt or stop in the parade, the phone is now became an escape, maybe to take a selfie, or to make any social media update. ;)
On the stop quick fix, when there is a mishap happening on the statue.
And Avatar Avatar-inspired demon?
And that's it for now, I hope I can buy the proper lens next time.

I can't imagine what these images would be like if you had taken with you the equipment you consider appropriate that day. They are incredible! The dark tone brings drama to the scenes, for my taste they are perfect. Those statues are impressive and I appreciated knowing what they represent, they certainly transmit that demonic power with their expressions. What material are they made of to weigh so much? They remind me of the images that next week they will procession through the streets of my city celebrating Christian Holy Week. It's funny how different cultures around the world share similar traditions. I really enjoyed meeting this one, thank you for sharing it.

But despite that, I am so happy that you like the result, maybe next year I could get a better photos.
The main frame, I believe made of some iron rebar for strength and then some organic material made from bamboo to make the shape of the statue, and then the base is made of wood, and then quite a lot of bamboo so all the youngsters can lift the statue.
Yes, it is similar and it is very interesting indeed, maybe it is just the way we worship the Devine power, different route leading to one spot. :)
thank you very much for the pick my friend. I appreciate it very much
It's okay to try to do what others do to whom you admire their work, but here you have me to admire what you do. ☺️ With that photo you make a little cheating, hahaha, a photo of the day with one of the night and very different figures.
Wood weighs a lot, just like metal. They are similar in the material sense as well.

I would love to have seen that parade!
It is such a lovely parade for sure. But I understand that it would be so costly for you to come down here to Bali, and it is such a long flight, almost a whole day, from some the story that I get from some of my villa guest.
Also on the New Year Day or the Silence Day Nyepi, the whole island is shutdown, you can't go out from the hotel where you stay. So it means one day is gone without exploring the island.
The first statue is really eye catching lol. I hope the children weren't scared of it at first glance :)
thank you so much. hahah
some of the kids doesn't like them though, but they get used to it. hahah
That looks so festive!
It is always nice Cem, you should try to come next time, but go back to Java after the parade, so you won't spend the Nyepi day here in Bali, unless you wan to experience it as well. ;)
