Dear Hive community, today I want to share with you the memories I've got from a day off in Fall, a windy Saturday spent in Bolsena Lake, between Marta and Capodimonte towns. On these days in Rome, where I'm from and live, the weather reminds me a lot of that day in Marta: sunny but pretty cold and a little windy as well. There was not a cloud in the sky, precisely like it is currently in the Eternal City.

But anyway, with some friends we had planned to go to Bolsena Lake as we love hiking and there was a nice easy path that links Marta town with Capodimonte town, the two main places on the lake. Bolsena lake is located in the north part of Latium region, in the area of Viterbo. You should know that if you are going there by car and you want to get there pretty early in the morning but it's a sunny beautiful day, trust me... leave early! Because on your way you will face some traffic jams and you're gonna waste your precious time stuck in your car.
Fortunately, we left pretty early in the morning, especially because we had a long way ahead, since we drove from Latina area, which is on the opposite side taking Rome as central point. It took us almost two hours and half, but we made it to Marta still pretty early for having a good breakfast at a bar on the lakeside, before starting off our hiking.
The first sight, the lake from the top of the town
Marta is a pretty small and lovely town from whose top is possible to have a great view of the whole lake which, however, takes its name from the main town, Bolsena, more popular, bigger and well known. I love Marta though, because it's one of the calmest places I've ever visited. Indeed, I had been there before multiple times with my Family and a couple of family friends who own an apartment in the town center. It's one of those places where you can definitely go to relax, read a lot of books, eat good food and just enjoy the natural beauty around you. It is also a good place for families with kids, especially in Summer, because there is a cool, even if tiny, beach where to sunbath and enjoy the lake in the warm whether. Simply the calmest place ever! Very few people currently live in Marta, and mostly are old people trying to enjoy their retirement in a quiet lakeside. Of course, if you are a kind of person who needs to be in the crowd, willing to party all night and day, forget about Marta!
Top town sight
Marta is probably the simplest town ever: couple of churches, a main central street, and a bunch of amazing tiny brick houses attached to one the other... as my mom would say, it looks like a crip!
Marta, a person's name?
Apparently the origins of the name can be redirected to the Phoenicians' period, from which the original name "Marath". However, certain origins are still undefined, and so is the name's derivation. I just have always found curious that this little town has the name of a person!

The countryside around
Our hiking was ahead towards Capodimonte and we started off the right way, exploring the countryside around Marta, literally walking through fields and woods. Beautiful scenes opened up behind us, leaving our pace calm and relaxed for a long time. That was, indeed, meant to be an easy walk, nothing to suffer from or regret to have started at all. Definitely a relaxing walk into the wild.

Arrival in Capodimonte
To arrive to Capodimonte it took almost a one hour and half but we really walked slowly. Indeed, Marta is not far at all and so we took some time to wonder around the town before deciding where to rest a little bit and restore ourselves with our packed lunch, the only thing I would never forget when going for a hiking around... Food is everything!

We spent some time on some benches in front of the harbor so that we could enjoy our lunch with a great sight without being in the crowd at the shore, were many kite surfers and their families were staying. I've always liked the kites, since I was a kid. I remember my dad would make me play with a small kite on the sea shore, in September, when there were not many people around and so I would not damage or bother no one 😅
After our meal, we kept walking and exploring Capodimonte a little bit, but there was not much to see... I guess the town is even smaller than Marta! However, at least the views were great also here and I managed to take some good pics here too.
Return to Marta with a break to purchase Cannaiola, typical local wine
While my friends were trying to interrupt the lunch of the winery's owner in order to purchase some bottles of Cannaiola, I had enough time to take the last pictures of Marta and its windy lake with beautiful white waves and houses profiles standing out from the boats on the shore. The colors were still Fall-like and the atmosphere was completely still, despite the wind. Enjoyable absolutely.

Cara comunità di Hive, oggi voglio condividere con voi i ricordi che ho da un giorno libero in autunno, un ventoso sabato trascorso al Lago di Bolsena, tra i paesini di Marta e Capodimonte. In questi giorni a Roma, la città di cui sono originaria e dove attualmente vivo, il tempo mi ricorda molto quella giornata a Marta: soleggiato ma piuttosto freddo e anche un po' ventoso. Non c'era una nuvola in cielo, proprio come in questi giorni nella Città Eterna.
Gli amici sorridenti sono sempre i migliori!
Comunque, con alcuni amici avevamo programmato di andare al Lago di Bolsena perché amiamo le escursioni e c'era un bel sentiero facile che collega il paese di Marta con il paese di Capodimonte, due località principali del lago. Il lago di Bolsena si trova nella parte settentrionale del Lazio, nella provincia di Viterbo. Dovreste sapere che se ci andate in macchina e volete arrivarci abbastanza presto la mattina ma è una bella giornata di sole, fidatevi... partite presto! Perché lungo la strada dovrete affrontare alcuni ingorghi e sprecherete un po' del vostro tempo prezioso bloccati in macchina.
Per fortuna siamo partiti abbastanza presto la mattina, soprattutto perché avevamo molta strada da fare, visto che siamo arrivati dalla zona di Latina, che è dalla parte opposta prendendo Roma come punto di riferimento. Ci abbiamo messo quasi due ore e mezza, ma siamo arrivati a Marta quando era ancora abbastanza presto per fare una buona colazione in un bar in riva al lago, prima di iniziare la nostra escursione.
La prima vista, il lago dalla cima della città
Marta è una graziosa cittadina piccola e deliziosa dalla cui sommità è possibile avere una splendida vista su tutto il lago che però prende il nome dal capoluogo, Bolsena, più popolare, più grande e ben nota. Amo Marta però, perché è uno dei posti più tranquilli che abbia mai visitato. In effetti, ci sono già stata più volte con la mia famiglia e un paio di amici di famiglia che possiedono un appartamento nel centro del paese. È uno di quei posti dove puoi sicuramente andare a rilassarti, leggere molti libri, mangiare del buon cibo e semplicemente goderti la bellezza naturale che ti circonda. È anche un ottimo posto per famiglie con bambini, soprattutto in estate, perché c'è una spiaggia fresca, anche se minuscola, dove prendere il sole e godersi il lago durante le ore più calde d'estate. Semplicemente il posto più tranquillo di sempre! Pochissime persone attualmente vivono a Marta, e per lo più sono anziani che cercano di godersi la pensione in una tranquilla cittadina di lago. Certo, se sei un tipo di persona che ha bisogno di stare in mezzo alla folla, disposta a fare festa notte e giorno, dimentica Marta!
Principale vista della città
Marta è probabilmente la città più semplice in assoluto: un paio di chiese, una strada centrale principale e un mucchio di meravigliose casette di mattoni attaccate l'una all'altra... come direbbe mia madre, sembra proprio un presepe!
Marta, il nome di una persona?
A quanto pare le origini del nome possono essere ricondotte al periodo dei Fenici, da cui il nome originario "Marath". Tuttavia, le reali origini sono ancora indefinite, così come la derivazione del nome. As ogni modo, ho sempre trovato curioso che questa piccola città abbia il nome di una persona!
I panni stesi alle finestre sono una cosa così italiana, immagino... e lo adoro!
La campagna intorno
Il nostro percorso di trekking era davanti a noi verso Capodimonte e siamo partiti col piede giusto, esplorando la campagna intorno a Marta, camminando letteralmente tra campi e boschi. Belle scene si sono aperte davanti di noi, lasciando tuttavia il nostro passo calmo e rilassato per molto tempo. Quella doveva, infatti, essere una passeggiata facile, niente di cui soffrire o rimpiangere di aver iniziato. Sicuramente una rilassante passeggiata nella natura e nella campagna dell'alta Tuscia.
Difficile tentativo di fotografare gli uccelli che prendono il volo tutti allo stesso tempo... cosa ne pensate? Ci sono riuscita?
Arrivo a Capodimonte
Per arrivare a Capodimonte ci è voluta quasi un'ora e mezza ma abbiamo camminato molto lentamente. Marta infatti non è affatto lontana e così ci siamo presi un po' di tempo per girovagare per il paese prima di decidere dove riposarci un po' e rifocillarci con il nostro pranzo al sacco, l'unica cosa che non dimenticherei mai quando vado a fare un'escursione in giro... Il cibo è tutto!
Pausa pranzo con amici e @castles, lungo il lago, con uno spettacolo fantastico, kitesurf e tutto il resto
Abbiamo trascorso un po' di tempo su alcune panchine davanti al porto per goderci il pranzo con uno spettacolo fantastico senza essere tra la folla sulla riva, dove c'erano molti kite surfer e le loro famiglie. Mi sono sempre piaciuti gli aquiloni, fin da bambina. Ricordo che mio padre mi faceva giocare con un piccolo aquilone in riva al mare, a settembre, quando non c'era molta gente in giro e quindi non potevo ferire o dare fastidio a nessuno guidando con impaccio il mio piccolo aquilone 😅
Dopo il pasto, abbiamo continuato a camminare ed esplorare un po' Capodimonte, ma non c'era molto da vedere... Immagino che la città sia anche più piccola di Marta! Tuttavia, almeno le viste erano fantastiche anche qui e sono riuscita a scattare anche da lì delle foto dignitose.
Rientro a Marta con una sosta per acquistare la Cannaiola, vino tipico locale
Mentre i miei amici cercavano di interrompere il pranzo del proprietario della vineria per acquistare alcune bottiglie di Cannaiola, ho avuto il tempo di scattare le ultime foto di Marta e del suo lago ventoso con gli spruzzi bianchi di onde alzate dall'aria e i profili delle case che si stendevano da quelli delle barche sulla riva. I colori erano ancora autunnali e l'atmosfera era completamente calma, nonostante il vento. Assolutamente godibile.

Beautiful town with the wonderful scenery of the lake! The tiny brick houses are amazing and the tower is fascinating. Nice harbor with a lot of boats! I also liked kites when I was a kid, too. The white clouds with bright blue sky over the church is my favorite. Great shot! Thanks so much for sharing. ;)
