Our first motorcycle trip: a week on Elba Island
Finally I find the time to share some memories of our vacation on Elba Island with my partner Riccardo. From August 19 to 26, 2023, we lived an unforgettable experience between sea, nature and adventures. Even though some time has passed, these photos taken with my cell phone deserve to see the light!
The trip: Rome - Elba Island with a stop in Grosseto
We decided to leave by motorbike from Rome, opting for a stop in Grosseto before boarding. Here we had lunch and visited the city, paying particular attention to its beautiful Cathedral, of which I have a photo of the facade. After this short but pleasant visit, we set off again towards Piombino, where the ferry to Elba awaited us. The ferry ride was quick and comfortable, although crowded, given the summer season.
Our accommodation in the cork oak forest
On Elba we were lucky to find a cozy guesthouse inside of a small estate immersed in a wonderful cork oak forest. Our little apartment had a veranda and a large outdoor space where we could eat and relax in the shade of the trees. However, we spent most of our time exploring!
Searching for the most hidden beaches
We traveled the length and breadth of the island in search of the most intimate and hidden beaches. Sure, we stopped at the most famous beaches, but only for short breaks, because we prefer to discover more private corners. Many of our destinations required real trekking to be reached: tiring, but absolutely rewarding. The water of Elba is wonderful everywhere and there are beaches of all kinds: white sand, dark sand, rocky coves, long stretches of pebbles... a paradise for those who love the sea!
The adventure to Monte Capanne
One of the most intense moments of our vacation was the excursion to Monte Capanne. We climbed with the cablecar and we decided to walk down, following a path. Unfortunately, the descent turned out to be more complicated than expected: the path was little used and in some places landslide-prone. I was scared, we didn't have hiking shoes, we were alone and the sun was setting. Riccardo was very good at keeping calm and looking for the right path, allowing us to find the way back with a lot of effort, but also with a great sense of relief. In the end, as a little reward, I picked some blackberries along the path almost downstream and ate them for breakfast the next day: very sweet and well-deserved!
Seafood dinners and romantic sunsets
During the whole holiday we did not miss our "guilty pleasure": dinners based on the freshest fish and spectacular sunsets. Elba has given us breathtaking views and moments of pure serenity.
Unfortunately in 2024 we were unable to indulge in a new adventure, but we hope that 2025 will be the right year for another motorcycle holiday!

La nostra prima gita in moto: una settimana all’Isola d’Elba
Finalmente trovo il tempo per condividere qualche ricordo della nostra vacanza all’Isola d’Elba con il mio compagno Riccardo. Dal 19 al 26 agosto 2023, abbiamo vissuto un’esperienza indimenticabile tra mare, natura e avventure. Anche se è passato del tempo, queste foto scattate con il cellulare meritano di vedere la luce!
Il viaggio: Roma - Isola d’Elba con tappa a Grosseto
Abbiamo deciso di partire in moto da Roma, optando per una sosta a Grosseto prima di imbarcarci. Qui abbiamo pranzato e visitato la città, con una particolare attenzione al suo bellissimo Duomo, di cui conservo una foto della facciata. Dopo questa breve ma piacevole visita, siamo ripartiti alla volta di Piombino, dove ci attendeva il traghetto per l’Elba. Il viaggio in traghetto è stato veloce e confortevole, anche se affollato, vista la stagione estiva.
Il nostro alloggio nella pineta
All’Elba siamo stati fortunati a trovare un’accogliente guesthouse all’interno di una piccola tenuta immersa in una sughereta meravigliosa. Il nostro appartamentino aveva una veranda e un ampio spazio esterno dove potevamo mangiare e rilassarci all’ombra degli alberi. Tuttavia, abbiamo trascorso la maggior parte del nostro tempo in esplorazione!
Alla ricerca delle spiagge più nascoste
Abbiamo girato l’isola in lungo e in largo alla ricerca delle spiagge più intime e nascoste. Certo, ci siamo fermati anche nelle spiagge più famose, ma solo per soste brevi, perché preferivamo scoprire angoli più riservati. Molte delle nostre destinazioni richiedevano veri e propri trekking per essere raggiunte: faticosi, ma assolutamente gratificanti. L’acqua dell’Elba è meravigliosa ovunque e si trovano spiagge di ogni tipo: sabbia bianca, scura, calette rocciose, lunghe distese di ciottoli… un paradiso per chi ama il mare!
L’avventura al Monte Capanne
Uno dei momenti più intensi della nostra vacanza è stata l’escursione al Monte Capanne. Siamo saliti con la cabinovia e abbiamo deciso di scendere a piedi, seguendo un sentiero. Purtroppo, la discesa si è rivelata più complicata del previsto: il sentiero era poco battuto e in alcuni punti franoso. Io ero spaventata, non avevamo scarpe da trekking, eravamo soli e il sole stava calando. Riccardo è stato bravissimo a mantenere la calma e a cercare il percorso giusto, permettendoci di ritrovare la via con molta fatica, ma anche con un grande senso di sollievo. Alla fine, come piccolo premio, ho raccolto delle more lungo il sentiero quasi a valle e le ho mangiate a colazione il giorno dopo: dolcissime e meritate!
Cene di pesce e tramonti romantici
Durante tutta la vacanza non ci siamo fatti mancare il nostro "guilty pleasure": cene a base di pesce freschissimo e tramonti spettacolari. L’Elba ci ha regalato panorami mozzafiato e momenti di pura serenità.
Purtroppo nel 2024 non siamo riusciti a concederci una nuova avventura, ma speriamo che il 2025 sia l’anno giusto per un’altra vacanza in moto!
