Good morning everyone, today I would like to share with you my personal experience in using calycanthus as a phytotherapeutic remedy.

Calycanthus is a deciduous shrub. It can withstand minimum cultivation temperatures of up to -10 °C, the maximum concentration of active ingredients in the flowers is obtained in January.
Toxicity is medium because the seeds are toxic.
Do not take Chimonanthus praecox supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding, always consult a doctor before taking phytotherapeutic preparations based on this plant.
Essential oil of the flowers has diuretic and sedative properties.
PREPARATIONS
Infusion: prepared with 15 g of fresh flowers per 100 ml of water for the diuretic function.
Mother tincture: prepared with 15 g of fresh flowers, chopped, macerated for 21 days in 100 ml of 86° hydroalcoholic solution. The filtrate can be preserved for 3 years, 100 drops per day for the sedative function.
NOTE
It is one of the few plants to flower in January with temperatures even below zero degrees. Its name calicanto or calicantus derives from the Greek Chimonanthus, which means "winter flower" and according to tradition it is a plant that awakens the spirit
and the body.

Calycanthus è un arbusto deciduo. che resiste a temperature minime di coltivazione fino a -10 °C, la massima concentrazione di principi attivi nei fiori si ottiene nel mese di gennaio.
La tossicità è media perchè i semi sono tossici.
Non assumere integratori di Chimonanthus praecox in gravidanza e allattamento, consultare sempre un medico prima di assumere preparati fitoterapici a base di questa pianta.
Olio essenziale dei fiori possiede proprietà diuretiche e sedative.
PREPARAZIONI
Infuso: preparato con 15 g di fiori freschi per 100 ml di acqua per la funzione diuretica.
Tintura madre: preparata con 15 g di fiori freschi, sminuzzati, fatti macerare per 21 giorni in 100 ml di soluzione idroalcolica 86°. La conservazione del filtrato è pari a 3 anni, 100 gocce al giorno per la funzione sedativa.
NOTE
E' una delle poche piante a fiorire nel periodo di gennaio con temperature anche sotto gli zero gradi. Il suo nome calicanto o calicantus deriva dal greco Chimonanthus, che significa “fiore d’inverno” e secondo le tradizioni è una pianta che risveglia lo spirito
ed il corpo.
