Pablo Durr Misle, nacido el 13 de enero de 1949, fue quien trajo a la Colonia Tovar, la famosa tradición de los jokilis; arlequines que danzan por las calles usando mascaras de madera y trajes rojos con muchos cascabeles. Una tradición que caracteriza los carnavales de este pueblo.
Pablo Durr Misle, born on January 13, 1949, was the one who brought the famous tradition of the jokilis to Colonia Tovar; harlequins who dance through the streets wearing wooden masks and red costumes with many bells. A tradition that characterizes the carnivals of this town.
El señor Pablo Durr, cuando era niño, ya conocía quienes eran los jokilis gracias a su abuelo Martin Misle, quien le contaba historias y canciones de estos arlequines de su pueblo natal Endingen, Alemania. El pequeño Pablo tuvo mucha curiosidad por conocerlos y aprender más sobre ellos, sin embargo no viajó a Alemania hasta 1973, en donde se sintió mucho más interesado por esta linda tradición al poder verlos y compartir experiencias con ellos.
Mr. Pablo Durr, when he was a child, already knew who the jokilis were thanks to his grandfather Martin Misle, who told him stories and songs about these harlequins from his hometown Endingen, Germany. Little Pablo was very curious to meet them and learn more about them, however he did not travel to Germany until 1973, where he felt much more interested in this beautiful tradition as he was able to see them and share experiences with them.
En 1974, la familia Vollherbst (miembros del Endinger Narrenzunft) visitó la Colonia Tovar y obsequió al señor Pablo Durr una máscara de estos arlequines, agradeciendo todo su interés hacia ellos. Este obsequio fue lo que lo incentivó 2 años mas tarde a crear una organización jokili en la Colonia Tovar.
In 1974, the Vollherbst family (members of the Endinger Narrenzunft) visited Colonia Tovar and gave Mr. Pablo Durr a mask of these harlequins, thanking him for all his interest in them. This gift was what encouraged him 2 years later to create a jokili organization in Colonia Tovar.
El mismo, era quien realizaba las mascaras para toda la organización. A parte de eso, era muy aficionado a la fotografía, carpintería y era comerciante importador.
He himself was the one who made the masks for the entire organization. Apart from that, he was very fond of photography, carpentry and was an import merchant.
Gracias a él, 49 años más tarde, en La Colonia Tovar, aún conservamos esta hermosa tradición Alemana, que deja en evidencia la mixtura de ambas culturas, atrayendo a todo tipo de personas a visitar el pueblo cada carnaval.
Thanks to him, 49 years later, in La Colonia Tovar, we still preserve this beautiful German tradition, which reveals the mix of both cultures, attracting all types of people to visit the town every carnival.
