in Discovery-it16 days ago

In this third video, we perform Rise and Groovin’ Hard.
After this, look forward to a new set of videos featuring our final (indoor) concert. Look forward to a few new songs that didn’t make it to the previous recordings.

Rise is famous because of Biggy’s Hypnotize .

I asked the director if we could play this song last year. He seemed doubtful, but he magically found the music for us.

The original is by a guy named Herb Alpert.

The version we are doing is different, but its very close. As far as arrangements go and harmonies with the horns, I can’t say much. The bass part is much different from the original.

BYW, here’s another video featuring the original song. It’s horrible. I like to listen to it, but I can’t stand to watch the video. The bass part and music is awesome. Acting super sucks.

Groovin Hard is next in the vidoe.

It’s a not a fun song for me. It should be, but the chart is difficult to read. Edges are cut off. Sometimes parts look taken from the piano chart. I hate difficult to read charts. I feel on edge the whole time. It looks like somebody couldn’t find the actual base part. If not that, then it looks like someone spliced together the piano part and the base part to create a specific arrangement.
Maybe if i was a better sight reader, but it seems counterproductive to have musicians guessing as they read. DRAGTASTIC bro.

It’s not a good sign when the song titles cut off at the top of your chart. It probably came from a large legal size collection of music.

This is one of those songs that every big band has to do. Not the songs specifically, but a long swing type tune with an open solo section is almost always present. This gives different players and opportunity to solo in a song where they normally wouldn’t have a chance to solo. Some of these songs are designed to have open solo sections. It literally says, “open solos.” This is the section that could go on forever, endeavor, endeavor, endeavor, endeavor, endeavor, endeavor, endeavor, end ever and ever and ever and ever and ever. For me, the bass player, it’s like permission to solo the entire time. 🤣

My favorite thing about playing this song I get to use the fifth string on my five string bass. Too bad I still played E instead of Eb most of the time. What was I thinking? Thankfully it’s so low… I don’t think anyone noticed.

Hi @manclar
New video here! ⬆️⬆️⬆️

yey!, here we go, thanks dude!

Rise is a great song, although I must tell you that I much preferred Groovin Hard, better interpretation, rougher, more complex and better shots with the camera, so good job friend, there I leave you my little minnow vote 😂

Thanks! Glad you like it. Thanks for watching and thanks for your honesty.

Youre welcome, for me it is always a pleasure to support the musicians I like, you are a good bassist brother.

!PIZZA

I spoke to some other people a few days after the concert. One of the trumpet players said that was his favorite song also.
