Greetings friends, today I want to show you some photos taken at a retro transport festival a few years ago. The end of spring - beginning of summer is a very eventful time usually, there are many interesting activities going on. The day becomes long, the nights short, the sun warms up the streets. After a long winter, you really want a holiday. One of the traditional festivals in May is the festival of retro vehicles. I try to attend these festivals, because it is really very beautiful and fun. But sometimes you have to change your plans. That time I was very busy during the day and arrived at the festival in the evening, ‘in time for the hat-trick’. By the way, is it possible to use the expression ‘in time for the hat-trick’ in this context? I found two other variants of this proverb in the dictionary, ‘in at the killing’ and ‘Johnny-come-lately’, but I don't know which one is more correct to use.
The festival usually occupies several squares and streets in the city centre, near the Fontanka river embankment. The northern border of the festival grounds is the Engineer Castle. On the square in front of the Engineering Castle there is a monument to Emperor Peter the Great. Maple Alley stretches from the monument towards Manezh Square. This alley usually becomes a parking place for cars and motorbikes. Most of the cars had already driven off when I arrived at the festival. But there was a good side to this, the crowd had dispersed too and the few remaining retro cars could be viewed from all angles.
A little further along, on Engineer Street, was where the buses were parked. I only managed to see two old buses this time. Buses and trams evoke many childhood memories. I remember how we used to take the tram with my family to this street in my childhood to go to the circus. It's been so long since I've been to the circus that it seems like a memory from a past life. An old bus leaves the festival - these are the buses we used to take to visit relatives in another city.
The square in front of the circus building quickly empties out, and I return to Maple Alley to take another look at the cars and scooters. Every few minutes another car leaves the festival, and there are very few cars left. But some enthusiasts are in no hurry to leave the festival grounds, they want to fully live the beautiful day. One of the older cars has engine problems, neighbours have come to the rescue and are collectively working on repairs. Other festival participants just gather in small groups and continue socialising.
