Greetings, friends!
A lot of interesting events united by a common theme were organized in Tsarskoye Selo this summer. The name of the unifying theme was: "In the sky of Tsarskoye Selo: aeronautics in the imperial residence". I have always been interested in the history of aeronautics. I have been to several events, and I have already told about the lifting of the airship and balloon flights.

Besides aeronautics itself, the project organized several events dedicated to the historical period when aeronautics was born and began to develop actively. Today I would like to tell you about a historical festival dedicated to the events of 1914. The year 1914 was the year of the beginning of the Great War. In our country this war is more often called "World War I", sometimes you can meet another name "Imperialist War". 38 countries were drawn into the military conflict... however, you all know the history of this war.

Historical festival "The Great War. 1914" was organized by representatives of historical reconstruction clubs of Moscow and St. Petersburg. Reconstructionists settled down on the territory near the museum "Ratnaya Palata". The composition of the participants was international. In addition to the Russian Imperial Army there were representatives of the armies of both Russia's allies and opponents (if you look carefully at the photos below, you will definitely see the flag of Austria-Hungary). I was most impressed by the arrival of representatives of the Scottish regiment.

Tent camps were spread out on a large meadow, and interactive sites were organized near the hippodrome. There was also an exhibition of equipment from the early 20th century. There were also horse shows planned - but I missed them, unfortunately - I should have been more careful when reading the announcements!

The history of World War 1 is the key to the whole history of 20th century Europe. It seems to me that this war is still understudied and the events of this war have not received enough impartial coverage. Were the tragic incidents and coincidences important? Was it possible to make a difference? Or is the logic of the course of history inexorable?
