I missed the post! But upvoted this comment instead. I checked out the Wikipedia page. Your photo is so much more spectacular. Read up on the history link. I used to look into the sky and think it was unchanging, that our ancient ancestors saw what we see, and this united us across time. But that's not true. The ancients do not appear to have noticed this nebula at all because it didn't shine as brightly (or at least the stars around it didn't).

Thank you for telling me this with the brightness. I wouldn't have expected this. I think I need to read a little bit more on the historic of it :-)
