A hospital and a cemetery - lovely way to spend Friday: May 7 2021

in Actifit4 years ago (edited)

OK, here is I in a hospital recovering from endoscopy (a tube with a camera pushed through the throat to look at the stomach) and colonoscopy (same, but pushed through an entirely different orifice in your body).

I had been slightly uneasy about the whole thing, especially after my sister, who is a nurse, encouraged me by telling me that one of her patients said that having her colonoscopy felt three times worth then having birth! 😱

In the end, the NHS delivered as they always do, with amazing efficiency - sedative drugs were administered; nurses were amazingly polite and helpful; my doctor had 36 years experience in the field (and told me to fart as much as I could to relieve pressure on my bowels); the whole thing was over in about 40 minutes. And because it was the NHS, it cost me nothing. I love NHS..

Interestingly, on the way to the hospital I walked through West Brompton cemetery - which actually put me in a fairly calm mood. There's is cafe at one entrance where people sit and drink coffee; there are dog walkers; mums with children; people having a snack sitting next to a grave..

Sort of, we come to this world, we stay here for a while, we go. Then people come and have lunch next to our grave :) Life goes on!
