First hyacinth orchid in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP : November 5 2024

in Actifit15 days ago

Each morning is proving to be a bit of struggle street. Late nights doing investing stuff and a living model so far from what I wanted to be doing at age 68. Have learned these last 18 years to make the best of the outdoors and what I see. Headed out to shops with a side trip ahead if that into Ku-ring Gai Chase NP to look for orchids

Lots of patersonia iris. First step mission - find snake orchid on a side track

Budding tongue orchid no more than 10 metres from track start. Not seen them this side

Pink grevillea

Purple fan flower

Lambertia formosa

Hibbertia - good light for the photos

Snake orchid is now flowering with two spikes

Front on - cymbidium suave

Side on

Front on. Tough photo as there is a bit of depth in the flower profile

Corea flowering in same spot - always a hairy view

Back under the powerlines. Never seen so many butterflies but no posers. They love the white kunzea

Mini flannel flower is a hard photo challenge if there is any breeze. Flower is the size of a US penny

Mini pea flower twins are even smaller

Sundew flower down a level even more

Dampiera purpurea

Waked back along the road - budding hyacinth orchids

Close up of the budding dipodium variegatum

Found one open - note the fluffy calli on labellum

Step back photo showing how flowers open from the bottom up

Flowering eucalyptus - maybe angophora

Next orchid find on the track that runs along the road. Budding bonnet orchid

First conesticks flowers forming

Slender rice flower

Tear drop flower - my name

Flax lily - also super tiny

3rd orchid flowering for the day - large tongue orchid. Why the name - looks like a cow tongue

Cryptostylis subulata in a known spot

Grey spider grevillea

A bit of weevil action - from underside

From the side

NSW coral heath flower

Got the walk done. Found orchids. Set my mind free. And did the shopping

Did get the weekly investing post out a little ahead of normal. Read it here https://mclnks.com/tib732

Dinner: Chicken curry
