Was turning into one of those slow days. My wife was sick and could not get to the office. That gave me a slow start as she was moving later than normal. Was a grey morning too
Third time flowering for the Brazilian walking lily - fab shaoe and colours - they flower one day only
Netcasting spider in the orchids. Plan for the day was to get out on the train-bike to check on a specific orchid. Did not happen. Did get on the bike to ride down to Lane Cove NP - mission - hyacinth orchids
With a few days of rain the river is flower a little harder over the fish ladder. Grey heron posed
Last time the rocks in the race were visible - now just a swirl. Nice easy ride up the other side
Found this budding hyacinth orchid on the roadside - stopped for photos
A bit further developed with the buds separating and leaving the spike
Found these orchids budding directly where I had parked the bike - budding bonnet orchids
The mission was this orchid seen two weeks back - got fungal droop and will not flower
Bonnet orchids close by have also not flowered yet
Did find a bonnet orchid just opening on the way up the hill. Not fully open but the first for the day
Rode up to the gate at the top and found a side track that goes under the main road that is the northern boundary of this section of the park - flannel flowers found there. Parked the bike and walked the steep section
Cymbidium orchids in a tree far below - hard to tell if there were flowers - a bit far
View from the top across De Burgh and the busy Ryde Road. Now I know a way to get into Macquarie Park without doing the roads - a bit steep
A bit early for banksia flowering time
Bike parking spot from the steep hill
Tootled down the hill - view across the river - yellow flowers adorning
A few reflections
Orchids budding right where I walked in on this lookout - bonnet orchids
Found the variegated hyacinth orchids on the way down the hill - all on the down hill side
Dipodium variegatum - one of many
Step back photo of a cluster
Stopped to check this white flower - on a long spike - no idea what it is
And just below was another hyacinth orchid. Amazing - saw none open on the way up and 20 to 30 on the downhill side
Ride down. Easy down the hill and easy in the NP on the western side of the river. Smooth road and easy grades. Hard work riding back. The 30 minutes ride is way harder than an hour it would take to walk. Too bad Fitbit gave 2000 steps credit for down and back
Well short of steps for the day despite that hard work up the hill. Walked to shops to get a few. Not riding - need the steps.
Dinner: BBQ beef patties and butterflied peri peri prawns. Good news is my wife was able to eat
