Our Chistmas changed shape for the better with news that my wife's son would bring Ollie over in the morning
A few clues in the photo. Ollie came in a bit like a whirlwind - he loves cars
He spent a lovely time wandering around the apartment and the courtyard outside. He always has a car in hand and makes sure everyone has one - especially me. He learned how to work the sliding fly screen - back and forth closing it each time. Sweet revenge on the people upstairs who slide theirs a lot.
He headed home and his dad came back for lunch. We had two more friends coming over. My job - roast the pork and get crackling crackly - and cook some veges. My wife did all the other work - shopped the entrees, made a fabulous potato salad and a gluten free Christmas cake.
The proceedings were somewhat disrupted. My wife came up from the basement saying there was a bad smell and an alarm going off. I went to investigate. Problem comes from the fire pump room - the control system had red lights flashing. We called the fire company - no reply and no call back.
Then called the fire brigade. They were here in 10 minutes. They worked out the battery for the control system was overheating. They disconnected that and turned the pump off. They did say calling them was smart - could easily have had an explosion and blown a hole in the apartment above
Back to lunch after getting some nerves calmed.
Was a good way to get past our family challenges - help 3 others have a good time through their challenges with a good lunch
Went walking after lunch to get the steps in and to clear the head. White agapanthus
Walked the nearest cross street down the hill. Walked the grass verge in the shade - gave me a chance to take photos of the old houses that side. Big sandstone footings on the downhill side
Standard single storey house with garage under
This house had some English country garden flowers in front
A few red brick houses lower down
Interesting tile layering around the windows
A big rondawel attached to the top corner - will be a room with great light and not facing the hot afternoon westerly sun
Tricky jasmine photo against the light
An early renovation down the hill - double story. All the houses below this one are modern versions of this
Somehow got through the day. One of my children sent me a greeting. The other two only after I contacted them. The highlight was seeing Ollie have fun and friends enjoying good food.

All in all, a good day it was.
Calling the fire brigade was a nice idea.
I don't hesitate to find solution to any symptoms of fire or gas leakage in my house.
My son too always likes and uses cars...
Nice houses you got there
A crisis can strike at the worst time.
I'm glad it all ended up well for you and your family.
The houses are charming, today's flower photography was special, admirable photography. 7k steps count today, not less
