Hot day walk in Ku-ring Gai Chase : January 6 2025

in Actifit2 days ago

Up early with a stinking hot day forecast. Best plan for the day was to take the car and drive to Ku-ring Gai Chase NP to look for orchids. Was walking around 10am - a record for me these days

Conesticks flower - target today is midge orchids - 4 types have been seen here (by me over the years)

Grey spider grevillea

Orb weaver spider makes the theme for the day - spiders

Pink (spider) grevillea

Another orb weaver. Gold thread is clue to ID - golden orb weaver. Of note is it is only using 3 legs to hold on - did tap to get it to move - not dead

Pink leptospermum

A nice frond

Close up

Walked all the way down the track - no midge orchids - new life on the way back

Bonnet orchids on Kalkari Track

A few pea flowers still open

Mimosa flower

One more bonnet orchid open

Pine-leafed geebung just opening

Looped back up to car park - snake orchid looking good after flowering

Patersonia iris - shielded by the leaves from the hot sun

Hibbertia also shaded

First of the new banksia flowers emerging. No midge orchids today - next week perhaps. Got the steps done before the big heat.

Hid inside as temp got up to 34C - spent the afternoon working out problems with migrating accounting software - a whole lot of price data got lost. Tells me a lot about how the software upgrades went and why it is so slow. Seems there are different price files. SW has a hard time ravelling them all together. Half a day lost with no progress

Dinner: baked half a chicken on bbq outside - keep the heat out the house
