Rain was threatening for this afternoon, which obviously had to be avoided. I wanted to take a longer ride, so leaving with plenty of time was paramount. This ride took in a lot of tarmac or hard gravel tracks, with minimal soft track, but there was the odd short section of wet track and one long one.
Taking some minor roads outward towards Horsham on a frequent route but today avoiding an off-road section whichbwould be messy.
A new bridge across the main road was a welcome sight! But a little way on, I had to u-turn at a pedestrian rail crossing as my path was blocked by a style. My electric mountain bike is very heavy, and I can not lift it over obstacles. This is the kind of thing that can happen when investigating new routes.
The only option left to get past the railway was to take the road level crossing, but this was a much longer route through town streets.
I finally emerged onto a private road which led to the edge of St. Leonards forest. Just one damp track to go!
So once into the forest I kept to the main gravel track all the way through this large forest. About two and a half miles in total. A lovely place to leave all the stresses of life behind you.
After leaving the forest I had a choice. Take the long road route back or the wet bridalway down through Holmwood. The bridalway would be very wet but much shorter, so I took this option.
That was a good choice I was now running short of time. Rain was due so now there was just one more park track to negotiate, but wait! 😱
My track was blocked! Woodland maintenance was going on! I had to make another detour around the park. I know this park very well now so it wasn't a big problem, just muddy. 😆
A great ride at pace today. Just under 20 miles in total including detours. 1 hour 38 minutes.

Great activity count. Sorry for the detour, maintenance is very important. Keep staying actifit it's healthy.
Yes, found another route nearby. Not a problem with my knowledge of the forest. 😁

St. Leonards forest is so much better in the drier conditions. It opens up the whole forest for great adventures. This is not too far away now. March/April it gets drier.
